I was able to setup private Github repo and local commit. But push to remote gave me error 128. More details here

Anyone knows how to troubleshoot this issue? SSH key is already in Github.

Uninstalled TortoiseGit and installed SmartGit --> Problem solved!

This community is pretty much dead :)

Let's say I start off with a file that contains 3 lines, like so:-

A
B
C

I add some extra lines and the file now looks like this:-

A
X-1
X-2
B
Y-1
Y-2
Y-3
C

At this point, I choose 'Diff' from TortoiseGit's menu and I can see
that five new lines got added. That's fine - exactly what I'd expect.

Some time later, I remove all the lines that start with "Y" so the file
now looks like this:-

A
X-1
X-2
B
C

At this point, I perform another Diff. But the Diff carries on showing
the lines I removed (as if they were still present). Is that expected
behaviour? It seems totally wrong to me.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Frank.

I'd been having this problem all morning but after a re-boot it's
mysteriously gone away! I'll keep monitoring the situation to see if it
returns.

Hopefully this isn't another problem that'll mysteriously disappear
after a reboot !

I've just been viewing the log for a project using 'TortoiseGit->Show
log' but the main list doesn't show any changes that I checked in myself
(I don't have access to the main repo BTW - i can only check things in
locally).

If I filter the list by specifying certain words that I know I've used,
my checkins do show up in the filtered list - but I can't see them in
the main (unfiltered) list for some reason. Is that normal?

Can you provide screen shot?
I can't understand you

Here are 2 screenshots Frank. One is called 'Filtered.tif'. You can
see that I typed in the word "substantive" because I remember using that
word in one of my check-ins. And in the output pane you can see my
check-in dated 17th Feb 2013.

But the next screenshot is the unfiltered output (the information I see
when I simply select "Show log" without any filtering). Notice that the
only entries in the output pane are from other authors. My entry isn't
there and in fact there are no entries at all for 17th Feb 2013. Hope
that helps.

You have 1.3k commits in unfilter log.
Can you scroll up to till show work dir?

Default it is not date order, but top-order.

Hi Frank,

I don't understand what you mean by "show work dir" or what you mean by
"top order" but you're right about the sorting not being in date order.
At first glance, date order seems right but if I look more carefully, I
can see they're only approximately in date order. However, even if I
look more carefully, I can't find my own check-ins in the unfiltered
list. Maybe they're there somewhere but I can't see them (there are too
many entries to look through them all).

I've scrolled right up to the top of the list and produced a new
screenshot. Is that what you meant?

you can use ctrl-F to find the commit.

You merge the other branch, please follow the black line.

Or upgrade to latest version, there are button to quick follow up commit.

Thanks Frank. I eventually found them using ctrl-F. They were a long
way down the list (among some other entries that were mostly from about
3 months ago!)

If I'm feeling brave one day I might try that on a different machine.
To be brutally honest, my experiences of upgrading any Tortoise product
have mostly been bad ones. After an upgrade, I usually seem to lose
features rather than gain features! Thanks for all your help.
