How to Play Darkspore in 2023

Darkspore is an action RPG game that was released in 2011 by Maxis and Electronic Arts. It was a spin-off of the popular Spore game, featuring sci-fi elements and co-op gameplay. However, Darkspore was shut down in 2016 due to server issues and low player base. Since then, many fans have been looking for ways to play Darkspore again.

Fortunately, there is a solution. A group of dedicated modders have created a project called ReCap, which stands for Resurrection Capsule. ReCap is a local server emulator that allows players to run Darkspore offline or online with friends. ReCap also fixes some bugs and adds some features to the game, such as custom heroes and new items.

If you want to play Darkspore with ReCap, you will need the following:

A computer with Windows 7 or above;

Darkspore installed (you can get it from Steam or other sources);

The ReCap dependency (aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe);

The latest version of ReCap from GitHub (github.com/vitor251093/resurrection-capsule/releases).

After you have downloaded and installed everything, you will need to follow these steps:

Find the Darkspore.exe file in your Darkspore installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Darkspore\DarksporeBin or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Darkspore\DarksporeBin);

Copy the patch_darkspore_exe.exe file from the ReCap folder to the DarksporeBin folder;

Run the patch_darkspore_exe.exe file and wait for the success message;

A new file called darkspore_local.exe should appear in the DarksporeBin folder. Use it to launch Darkspore;

Create an account with any username and password and log in;

Enjoy playing Darkspore!

If you want to play online with friends, you will need to do some additional steps:

Make sure you and your friends have the same version of ReCap and Darkspore;

One of you will need to host a server by running the server.exe file from the ReCap folder;

The host will need to share their IP address with the other players;

The other players will need to edit their hosts file (usually located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) and add a line like this: host_ip_address darkspore.com, where host_ip_address is the IP address of the host;

The other players will need to launch Darkspore with darkspore_local.exe and log in with their accounts;

The host will need to invite the other players to their party by clicking on their names in the chat window;

Enjoy playing Darkspore online!
