[torontoisland] Neil Powers (1955-September 11, 2018) - a Celebration of His Life

Neil Powers resided on Toronto Island for a couple of years- he built a home there. Originally from Scranton PA, he was involved throughout his life with social justice issues here and in Seattle. Later in life, he returned to Centennial College’s Journalism program.

 

I’m sorry to say Neil has passed away in Toronto on Sept 11 after a brief illness.

 

There will be a Celebration of Neil’s Life at Eastminster United Church, 310 Danforth Ave on Saturday Sept 29^th starting at 2pm. (nr Chester subway, walk west, north side of the Danforth by Carrot Common).

 

Centennial Journalism Program faculty and students also had a heartfelt gathering for Neil.

As Neil embodied the best qualities of a student in the program and the journalism profession, a scholarship has been setup in his name:

There will also be gatherings in Seattle and PA.

 

I’m sorry that I didn’t think to post here earlier. I hope those who knew Neil will spread the word.
