This alpaca scarf was woven using a Bronson Lace pattern. I was really pleased with the subtle effect on the all white scarf

Where did you take the Bronson Lace pattern from?

The Bronson Lace pattern for the alpaca scarf came from a book called “The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory” on page 183.  On that page there are 3 versions with photos.  I used the top one.  Let me know if you would like me to post the pattern.

Hi Cheryl, your scarf is beautiful and I like the way you finished the fringe.  Could you please let me know the author of the book “The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory”?  I thought it was Marguerite P. Davison, but she has a different book. (A Handweaver’s Pattern Book).

The Handweaver’s pattern directory is by Anne Dixon.  On the cover it boasts “Over 600 weaves for four-shaft looms”.  I got mine from Chapters online service.  I found that the price was better there than in the stores.  Would you like me to scan the pattern page and try to post it on line for you?

If I might ask a question, I do not know whether posting the pattern would conform to copyright legislation.

The scarf is absolutely beautiful.

good question or concern Helen! Up to 10% is allowed for instructional purposes. It would be illegal to post to whole book for example. That was where it stood when I last was informed.

This is my little area of expertise: you can post up to 10% of the pattern…. Not the whole pattern. That becomes a copyright infringement. If we got a copyright licence (yeah, right!) then it would give us the right to do some limited distribution for non-profit reasons. But I don’t think we want to go that far, do we?

Thank you Cheryl for the offer to scan – let’s not get into any trouble… Since Line has the book, I’ll look at it the next time I am in for class.

Hi Everyone,

Do any of you know what weaving pattern was used to make this scarf?
The picture is labeled Dornick Twill, but I've googled around and I can't seem to find a pattern by that name that looks like this.

Thanks for your help,
April

Hi April, A Dornick twill is a sort of broken twill where the threading is varied from the usual 1234. There are a couple of examples of the threading and treadling on the websites below. I did a scarf a few years ago using Dornick twill - I'll see if I can find my notes and bring them on Wednesday. Marion.

Dornik twill: A broken herringbone weave, the break formed by the removal of one thread (if the threading is 4-harness, more if more harnesses) at the point, to eliminate the 3-thread float which occurs at the point of a regular herringbone. This strengthen the fabric and off-sets the twill line

It’s not a pattern per se. Interweave has a few projects made in Dornik twill.

I also might have more in my files at school about Dornick. I'll take a look!

On wednesday (evening at least) , could we maybe do a "hi, I'm so and so"? There is so much lovely work going on that I would like to meet the creators.

Line,

An alternative to unsubscribing people from the group might be to tell them how to reduce the amount of email they get by switching to a once-a-day "digest" of group messages. Below I've typed the instructions I used to do that for myself.

Hi Louise,

At the top of the email you can choose to unsubscribe. Just click on the unsubscribe button. Anne Odell also put together these instructions as to how to control the frequency of emails you might want to receive:

For folks who want to stay on the list but reduce the amount of email they get from it, there is the option of a "digest email" which puts all new messages to the group into a single email, once a day.

If you have not already created a login profile, you will need to do that first. Then:

1. Go to http://groups.google.com/group/toronto-weaving-network

2. Click "Sign In" (upper right corner of page). Takes you to Google login page.

3. Enter your email address and login password and click "Sign In". Takes you to Toronto Weaving Network page.

4. At the top of the page, more or less in the middle, click "My Groups". Takes you to a page listing all the Google groups you belong to.

5. On the right hand side, more or less in the middle, click "Manage my memberships". Takes you to a page where you can change your Google group subscription settings.

6. Across from Toronto Weaving Network, and under the Subscription Type heading (right side of page), change "Email" to "Digest email". Note that you can also use this option to choose "Unsubscribe" if you wish.

7. Click "Save group settings".
