Free In-Person Farming Education Program for Youth

Hello,
We have great news! Sundance Commons is offering a free twice a year educational program for youth who would like to start their own farming operation or become farm workers! Located mostly at our new urban farm in Rexdale, this cohort-based learning program provides the opportunity to gain employable skills and a potential pathway to land access for new farmers in the southwestern Ontario region.
For youth under 29 we provide:
15 weeks of urban and rural farm workshops
Access to Sundance Commons farming mentors
Virtual learning library
Bi-weekly group mentorship sessions
A network of peers and new farm connections
Potential land access at one of our four Sundance Commons farm sites
Dates and Times
The in-person workshops take place on Saturdays 10am-12pm
Cohort One: Mid-April to End of July
Deadline to Apply: April 10
Cohort Two: Early August to Mid-November
Deadline to Apply: July 24
The bi-weekly group mentorship sessions are on Mondays at 7PM.
The New Farmer Training Program takes place mainly at our urban farm site in Rexdale (555 Rexdale Blvd.) that is TTC accessible with 4 out of 15 workshops taking place at our rural farms, transportation will be provided for you there and back!

Sundance Commons is an agricultural non-profit which operates at four farm locations in southwestern Ontario. We provide the equipment, mentorship, educational training and land access for new farmers who face barriers to entry into the agricultural sector and land access more broadly. Sundance Commons envisions a regenerative and food-secure world where the equity and agency of farm workers is centered.
