This Saturday June 20th. From 10:00 to 12:00 at Christie Pitts Community Garden
Join us as we begin our next community compost! This will be step one in the process of growing healthy soil.
Gather with a community of urban farming and gardening enthusiasts to see the changes from organic waste to compost.
During this 2h event we will:
- Learn how soil microorganisms transform the starting material into rich biologically diverse compost.
- Feel the heat of microbial life, see the changes in texture colour and smell as we track the life of our compost.
- Learn how to take temperatures, monitor moisture and ‘read’ the signs of life in compost.
- Understand when it’s time to turn the pile
We never turn a pile before its time! Come along for a guided tour, turning our piles, and experiencing the magic of life as our starting material transforms into compost.
When the time is right you will be invited to drop in to turn the pile. This will happen at least three times and participation in every turn is not necessary.
Four weeks after the last turn we will gather again to look at our compost with a microscope and to share.
Also, we just launched our brand new website! Visit it in
