| | Indigenous Food Forest Program Deadline Coming Up
| EFAO’s Indigenous Food Forest Program is accepting applications for funding, deadline is Thursday, December 18th
The Indigenous Food Forest Program equips Indigenous farmers and communities across Ontario with the funding, knowledge, and mentorship needed to design, establish, and care for resilient food forests that strengthen ecological health, food sovereignty, and cultural continuity.
If you are an Indigenous grower, farmer, or land steward interested in establishing a food forest and connecting with a knowledge-sharing community around food forest stewardship, apply today!
The Indigenous Food Forest Program is funded in part by the Governments of Canada and Ontario under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), a five-year, federal-provincial-territorial initiative.

| | | | One more week to apply for the Vegetable Growers Viability Program
| | The initial intake of the Vegetable Growers Viability closes December 17th at 11:59 PM. This program helps increase resiliency of ecological farming through collective learning.
Recent, similar work done at PASA Sustainable Agriculture found:
Larger production scales bring higher incomes
Most direct market vegetable farmers are not earning a middle class income
Many of the farms involved reported that benchmarking helps them organize and review their farm finances each year as well as learn from others of similar scale and model
What will we learn about Ontario’s ecological vegetable farms to help us all forward?

| | More Questions than Answers for Alfalfa Study
| | With farmer-led research, sometimes the results create more questions than answers. This was true for Ken and his exploratory study on alfalfa persistence. He hypothesized that previous micronutrient applications, specifically boron, molybdenum, and sulfur would correlate with greater alfalfa stand density. However, his soil test results showed magnesium, sodium, zinc, and copper were higher in areas with greater alfalfa density.
