Growing an equitable urban good sector.

Hello ,

The Fair Finance Fund is thrilled to introduce the Nourish Fund, our newest initiative under the umbrella of the Inclusive Prosperity project. Inclusive Prosperity was created to dismantle financial barriers faced by racialized communities, particularly Indigenous and racialized farmers, in the agricultural and agri-food sector.

Beginning with a pilot program in Scarborough, Ontario, the Nourish Fund aims to provide tailored financing options for local, urban farms and food processing businesses to increase production and sales, improve local food accessibility and boost local economic growth. Our long-term mission is to empower equity-deserving communities with the financial tools to take an active role in their local food ecosystem, promote social finance in the urban farm and food sector, foster environmental stewardship, and cultivate a more equitable urban agricultural sector.

Meet Michelle: Nourish Fund Coordinator

A dedicated advocate for climate and food systems change, Michelle joins the team as the Nourish Fund Coordinator. With a Masters in Environmental Studies, Michelle is recognized for her research on decolonization and local food culture. Her professional journey includes roles at Local Food and Farm Co-ops, board member of Et Al Co-op Café, and has been awarded for expanding York’s on-campus Good Food Markets. Originating from Scarborough, Michelle has nurtured a lifelong aspiration to engage in farming. In her leisure time, she cultivates her own produce at home and is an avid supporter of local markets. As a first-generation settler woman from Tkaronto, Michelle honours and is dedicated to working in solidarity with the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and the Huron-Wendat who have been the caretakers of the lands since time immemorial.

We want to hear from you!

The Nourish Fund is holding stakeholder engagement conversations through the month of June. We are currently looking for community economic development organisations and racialized agri-food entrepreneurs, organisations, and businesses based in or working within the Scarborough area.

If this sounds like you or someone you know, and you/they would be interested in talking about potential avenues for collaboration, you can book a quick 30 minute call with Michelle.

Thank you, . We know that by working together, we can achieve meaningful progress and make a significant impact on our communities!
