Dear community members,

On Tuesday, City council is expected to vote on whether to approve an updated climate action plan for Toronto. The plan would support urban agriculture in a number of important ways.

Please sign a petition that will be presented by Councillor Josh Matlow endorsing Transform TO (2026-2030):

https://you.leadnow.ca/petitions/support-a-strong-climate-action-plan-for-toronto?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

We can also email our individual Ward Councillors explaining why it’s important that Council approve the 2026-2030 update. We can reference at least seven Actions in the plan that our community supports:  Action 10, Action 14, Action 16.3, Action 16.4, Action 16.5 and Action 17.

Here is a link to a PDF that contains the seven actions I have identified (others in our community may spot more):

The full document (90 pages) is available from the City website:

The email addresses for City Councillors are available from the link below:

In the interests of getting this out tonight I have not developed verbiage around each of these actions, but expect to be working on this Monday. Perhaps some of our group that have time tomorrow might be able to share verbiage they come up with.

Thanks,

Bruce Van-Lane

Thanks so much for putting this together, Bruce. We love it when TUGgers share actions for UA!

The City of Toronto is starting to include urban agriculture in policy, we need to encourage them. Please take a moment to sign the petition and email your councillor!

All the best,
Rhonda

I am grateful to work and live on Indigenous territory stewarded by the Mississaugas of the Credit and shared between Anishnaabek, Haudenosaunee, Wendat, and other allied nations under the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt. I wish to honour this Agreement as a newcomer/guest, that asks us to not take more than our share. I also acknowledge that these lands were taken by duplicity and force, and that reconciliation includes #landback.
