Hi Folks,

First information I and a number of others have received on the new
Turfgrass and Prohibited Plants Bylaw:

I may have missed it, but I don't see any definition of the line of
sight requirements at
https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/public-notices-bylaws/bylaw-enforcement/turfgrass-prohibited-plants

Unfortunately if Toronto will not define "line of sight" rules then
going to court or political action is the only way to clarify the bylaw.

I hope people that encounter the new bylaw will post on TUG or feel free
to contact me personally.

Greg

City of Toronto - e-updates

As the weather warms up and we step into the growing season, the City of
Toronto has launched a public education campaign to inform residents
about the rules in the new Turfgrass and Prohibited Plants Bylaw. The
City’s Grass and Weeds Bylaw has been updated and the new Turfgrass and
Prohibited Plants Bylaw
<https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/municode/1184_489.pdf>came into effect
on January 1, 2022.

The public education campaign is encouraging residents to:

* Learn about the do's and don'ts for lawns and how to grow
pollinator-friendly gardens.
* Avoid prohibited plants that can pose a threat to human health or
natural areas and cut turfgrass regularly.
* Delight neighbours with gardens but ensure that sidewalks or driver
and pedestrian views are not blocked.

More information about the rules, details and photos of the prohibited
plants, and resources on creating pollinator-friendly gardens are
available at toronto.ca/GrassAndGardens
<https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/public-notices-bylaws/bylaw-enforcement/turfgrass-prohibited-plants/>.

Thanks for sharing this Greg.

If anyone does encounter issues with the new bylaw, please do let us at TUG know. It helps to inform advocacy efforts.

Best,
Rhonda

TUG would like to acknowledge that the land on which we work is the historical territory of the Wendat, Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, Seneca and, most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River nations.  The territory is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Covenant, an agreement between the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. All of us who live and work in Tkaronto (Toronto) are treaty people, so we invite everyone to think about our responsibilities to this land and water, and to the peoples who have cared for this place for thousands of years.
