Allo All,

I was thinking that Toronto Nano needs a logo, and instead of me
making one and forcing it upon people, it would be great to see what
other people think!

I don't know if people actually read the facebook group (except for
Marty, Lily and myself), so I'm posting it here to get the blessing of
our overlord, DJ.

If we could get a logo design, then I could have that on the toronto
word war page, and make it look a bit more professional for next year!

What do you guys think?

I don't see any problem with this, as long as, you
know, it's not you engaging in unlawful activities
with a member of the animal kingdom or some such
thing. ;)

Are we going to have a website for next year? I mean,
beyond the Word War stuff.

Well, it doesn't have to be me doing the logo design, we could have a
contest, like I mentioned in the facebook group.

What's considered unlawful? Me eating a cat? Is that unlawful? I'm
allergic to cats, so I won't be eating them.

Website? Well, I could sorta host one off of my directory there.
However, if Toronto Nano already has it's own server and such and I
don't know about it, well, we could move everything there.

We don't have anything right now ... and with no
budget, we certainly aren't getting our own server. If
somebody has suggestions, I'm open to them.

I would love to see a Toronto NaNo website happen - and if it's hosted on your site, Errol, IMHO, so much the better!

While we're talking logos, I'm going to toss this into the ring... http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1007105

It's a logo discussion from way back the beginning of November, on the NaNo boards. Although the discussion was stopped by the mods before anyone could self-combust or set off grenades at anyone else, there are a few interesting thoughts there. I'm sharing because, well - let me leave it at saying that I've seen a tendency in other groups to use the CN Tower as part of Toronto logos.

Hope you're all having a brilliant day.

I can't imagine the Toronto NaNo Website to be incredibly bandwidth consuming.... should be able to find someone to host it for a bit (*cough* Errol *cough*) :P

Though with facebook, google, and the nano forums, why do we need a website? o_O

Why? we need a why for a website?? *laugh*

I don't mind having it on my website at all, it's just that people may
wonder why toronto wrimo is at:

http://www.elumir.com/nanowrimo

and not at some cool website name like

http://toronto.rocks.your.world.com

And why a website? It would be Toronto based! Not everyone is part
of facebook, nor do they even post on the forums... they're scared of
me. However, if they want to check the word war standings, if they
want to see the latest viddler video, if they want to see Debs and
Heather singing again, they could go to the website. I'm not talking
some overly insane convoluted website here. I just want a simple, one
page website with all the Toronto info on it.

And I'd still have the chat there. :D

With regards to the logo, I wasn't planning on putting any person on
there.

..

Wait, I do plan on it. I'll put an asian guy in it... no.. make it an
asian girl with a pony tail. A red ponytail, and she'll be in front
of the CN tower, and beside it will say: TORONTO ROCKS YOUR WORLD!

BWA HA HA HA!

Why, I'll upload that file to the files of groups right now! :D

Snark post? What are you talking about?

Oh, and can you summarize, the posting? I only saw the first and last
post.

It was going on forever about being politically correct. Maybe I can
put a cat in the logo falling off the CN tower....

Summarize what? The logo discussion on the NaNo boards?

The gist of it was people arguing whether the logo was (a) racist because the person may (or may not) look white; (b) sexist because the figure looks male (maybe) and/or because the pencil is somehow phallic.

I'm just sick of CN Tower Toronto logos :P

Mostly, I shared because I found the discussion so amusing.

And, apparently, I'm the one spamming all your inboxes today. Sorry, folks.

SPAM away! Vic!

Oh, and did you get a chance to look at my logo?

http://toronto-nano.googlegroups.com/web/tryw.png

Of course, I didn't put in me trying eat the cat, I'm ALLERGIC to
cats. But here's a T-Shirt graphic I made:

http://groups.google.com/group/toronto-nano/web/tshirt.gif

We don't have to do the CN Tower thing, do you have any suggestions?

If you get that shirt printed up, Errol, then I'm buying at least two
for friends...

Yay! Logo design! My first idea was of one with the CN Tower (Sorry,
Vic, it's just such a Toronto icon). It's got the skydome and one side
of the tower as a pen and inkwell, and the other side of the tower as
a sword. I've conned a cool artist friend into drawing up a quick
sketch for me, so if it comes out well, I'll send it out to the group!

I've been flailing around in Leo/Sagg mode the last two days, and now I'm trying to learn how to extract my foot from my mouth.

I certainly didn't mean to belittle, on the anniversary of the Montreal massacre, any comments about racism/sexism in the NaNo logo. I thought some of the comments were well-founded... it the was flame-ishness of the debate itself that I found funny.

And Errol - I think my thoughts about your logo got lost in (intarweb) translation. I'm giving up for now.

I don't think anyone would say that, Victoria -- though I personally
thought that some of the remarks were just reading way too much into
that little logo. And I don't think anyone in this group would be that
confrontational, anyway.

As far as ours, I don't see why there needs to be any sort of human
figure in it to worry about one way or the other to worry about.
Though I did like Errol's attempt ...

You know, I don't even know what we're talking about anymore. All
these references to smart things...

I'm a simple man, remember.

>I certainly didn't mean to belittle ... any comments about racism/sexism

I was trying to be as racist as possible. :)

Allo All,

I put up a semi-serious logo design.

http://toronto-nano.googlegroups.com/web/Logo_V1_Errol.png

It's 'semi' because I don't know if the official Toronto logo is
copyrighted or not. :) But I liked it better than the text version.

I tried putting in the CN Tower, just for Vic, but it's too small.

I actually like the text-only version better, personally (though I
think I might like it better if there were more of the keyboard around
it), and I would imagine the official logo is copyrighted. But I'm
good with the will of the group on this one.

Hopefully it will only be one of many logos that will be posted!!
Tabs said she's working on one, and I know that Yuyeee does graphic
arts of some sort, so I'll volunteer her!

So by all means, critique away... seriously, my feelings don't get
hurt.

By all means, more people should enter a logo. The great thing is, we
have a whole year to finalize it! :D

Course.. I could a pic of the chinese girl on the keyboard in the
awesome kungfu pose!

I've been volunteered?

Ok... but I'm currently working on a huge painting for my mom and she demands i finish it by christmas.... so until then.... :P

I like Errol's logo. I personally like the one with the city hall :D
