Training ?

Although I am profecient with computers (Mac), And familiar with many
different pro softwares (quark, filemaker, illustrator, photoshop) I
am having a hard time understanding the ins and outs of web site
development tools like joomla, wordpress. phpbb etc. Is there anyone
or any organization you might know about which gives training on basic
understanding and more advanced understanding of these tools?

I can help you with the basics once you've downloaded your joomla on your server.  I used fantastico with siteground as my service provider and it worked very easily.  If you like, I can make some videos for you to follow. Anna

I am conversant with photoshop, fireworks, dreamweaver and Joomla and
am more than able to assist you. I have experience teaching graphics
software as well. I also use a system sharing software and can
remotely connect with you and by phone demonstrate and guide you in
your learning quest.(phpbb i havent a clue)

I can help you with wordpress, both hosted externally and on your own server installation.  For php and css I'd highly recommend paying 147.00 for training tutorials and online mentor support from Hilco at strawberrycampus.com.  You'll get an understanding of cpanel, core training and be able to learn how to customize your websites to your purposes.  All through videos.
