. spam ! help !

i have been unblessed with more than my share of spam
(see following sanpshot)
some from china, some from other far-east jerks
the most offending, is the one that sends me 200k
daily. including 52 image files of nested whatever
(crashes pine if i try to forward it)
what shall i do ?!

To report it and hopefully get it to stop, Al you could try saving it
in another mailbox and then loading the mailbox file into PINE.
Moot point anyway, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are known for
badly run servers that spew large amounts of spam. A number of servers
now bounce anything that comes from either China. About the only way
that has been found to clean them up is to relay pro democracy pseudospam
through mainland Chinese servers.
If it comes from a Japanese server, a polite report in simple
english will often work.

There's no need, and good reason not to, forward tons of attachments with
a report.
Simply go to the attachments line in the header and ^K until there are no
more attachments.

With some systems you need the water buffalo to actually get
their attention[1], some others require that the complete, unmodified,
spam be included in the report.

There are some ISPs who would then reject your report as the spam
had been edited.
[1] Sometimes I miss corefileing, it was great for waking up
clueless admins.

A firewall in itself does not prevent spam.
In fact, there is no way to prevent all spam. There has been a great
deal of discussion of this in the past; you might want to check the
archives of the torfree.* groups to read it.
Spam seems to go in cycles, and some people are affected very little by
it, others are inundated. At the moment, I receive only 2 or 3 a day; a
few months ago I was receiving dozens, but it only lasted a couple of
weeks.
If a lot of TFN members are receiving large amounts of spam, we should
take another look at ways of combatting it. Once we have moved our servers
to the new location (the phone lines have been ordered and we're waiting
for an installation date) we can take stock of the situation.
