[PHNO-sb] JOYCE JIMENEZ REUNITES WITH OLD FLAME ONSCREEN

Quezon City, Jan. 7, 2001 - Sexy star Joyce Jimenez, dubbed as “Pantansya ng Bayan,” is the lead star of Balahibong Pusa, opening salvo of Viva Films for year 2001. The movie reunites Joyce with former boyfriend Jay Manalo in this project directed by debuting megman Yam Laranas.
This is the first time Joyce is doing a movie with Jay since they parted ways some three years ago. But times have changed since then. If before Joyce was just a starlet making a name for herself, she now counts as among
Viva’s top moneymakers. On the other hand, somehow, Jay’s career has been in the doldrums while Joyce’s star has shone brightly.
Joyce just came back from vacationing in Europe when she met the press in connection with the promo of Balahibong Pusa. It was just a few days before Christmas and she was planning for her trip to United States to spend the holidays and visit her relatives.
A more shapely and sexy Joyce greeted the press when she sat down for an interview. Those who’ve seen Biyaheng Langit, her last film, complained that Joyce looked fat onscreen. But not anymore. She has never looked so lovelier and shapelier.
Q: How did you lose weight?
A: Wala naman. When I stopped trying to lose weight, that was when I started to lose weight. Nu’ng pagdating ko galing Europe kasi, ang taba-taba ko; pero wala namang nagsasabi sa akin na ang taba ko kasi siguro tanggap na ng mga tao na mataba ako. But I have lost weight since then. When I came back from my vacation in Europe, 125 lbs. ang timbang ko. Then I went down to my regular weight, 115 lbs. But then, I started losing weight even more before I finished Biyaheng Langit. I would fluctuate from 105 to 108 lbs. I have lost 20 lbs. and now weigh 105 lbs. For my height, my ideal weight is 105 lbs.
Q: You are reunited with Jay Manalo, your ex-boyfriend, in the movie Balahibong Pusa. How would you describe the experience working with him? Did you enjoy working him or was there tension?
A: Kahit paano, may tension kasi it was the first time we saw each other since the split-up. So siyempre naman, kahit paano, when you work with someone for the first time, there’s really tension. It’s medyo alangan. But we were able to overcome it. It’s just a matter of giving it time, like anything else. We just started talking and then everything fell into place.
Q: But are you open for another chapter in your love story with Jay?
A: I can’t close my doors to anything, to everything. I can’t say no to everything. Nothing is hundred percent sure. I’m not saying yes; I’m not saying no. But I’m just saying that anything is possible.
Q: How has Jay changed?
A: He’s just matured. He just matured because it’s been three years. Kahit paano, sana naman nagbago na siya.
Q: Do you still love Jay up to now?
A: He will always be a part of me. I will always remember him, no matter where I am. He played a big part in my life.
Q: Do you remember him because of the heartaches he caused you?
A: Hindi naman sa ganoon. Hindi naman because of the negative things. Let’s put it this way. I should be thankful to him because he made me the person I am today. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Kumbaga, he made me stronger. He made me realize a lot of things. He made me mature. Maybe I wouldn’t have the kind of outlook I have now if it weren’t for him. Maybe it was because of him that I strove harder and harder to make it. Maybe I should be thanking him for being in the position that I am right now. If it weren’t for him, I would have just given up and would have gone to the United States.
Q: How were you and Jay while you were doing the love scenes?
A: Are you asking kung na-turn on ba kami o ganyan? Wala. When we were doing the love scenes, direk Yam said parang he could see how we were together. We have rapport. When we did the love scenes, we were already comfortable with each other. When we were doing the love scenes, I remembered how we were before so hindi naman nakaka-turn off, just how I remembered it.
Q: Did you miss having sex with him?
A: I don’t miss him in that sense. I don’t miss that part but I miss the fun times we had together. We did have good times. We had good memories kahit paano. Hindi naman lahat ay pangit. In his own little way, he’s really a sweet person. He takes care of you kahit paano. He will make you feel special. The little things we always do together, I mean, the little everyday things we do.
Q: Jay’s career is not exactly doing well after you broke up with him; but now it is you who is helping him get back on his feet again.
A: Kung nawala man ang career niya, hindi naman iyon dahil sa akin. Hindi naman puwedeng masisi ako dahil nawala ang career niya. Kung puwede naman akong tumulong, kahit na sinong tao, tutulungan ko. Alam ko naman ang posisyon na iyon. Nanduon na ako dati so kung tutulong ako sa career niya, okey lang. Masaya ako na kahit papano ay nakatulong ako.
Q: But you could have turned down the offer to do Balahibong Pusa had you wanted?
A: Bakit naman hindi, eh matino naman siya (Jay).
Q: Jay has truly changed?
A: Matino na siya. He’s pretty much on time on the set. He’s just changed into a better person.
Q: Did you feel like crying when you recalled you relationship with Jay?
A: Naalala ko lang pero I didn’t cry.
Q: So you had happy times with Jay in past?
A: Of course, there were good times, and bad times. Basta naalala ko the way we used to be. Like when we were doing the love scenes, we used to do that, cuddling, hugging. We’re used to doing that, dati pa. Huwag na lang natin alalahanin ang bad times, the bad things that happened in my life. It happened na. I can’t fix it anymore. The only thing that I can do is just to go on with my life, and that’s what I did.
Q: So you’d rather think of the good times you had with Jay?
A: When I think about him, about what we had shared in the past, I remember the good times naman. And the way he was to me. He was good naman kahit paano. I wouldn’t have stayed with him that long if he were masama to me. Masaya naman ako with him and masaya rin naman kasi sa shooting.
Q: What can you say about director Yam Laranas?
A: Ay magaling, grabe! Ang galing niya. Wala akong masabi. Ibang klase si direk Yam kasi cinematographer din siya; so he was also doing the camerawork on top of directing. Basta ang galing niya. Super galing. (By Ricky L. Calderon, Manila Times)
