Quezon City, Oct. 4, 2000 The forthcoming Aga Muhlach-Charlene Gonzales wedding is suddenly the object of controversy.
Charlene’s Dad, actor Bernard Bonnin, cried his heart out over the weekend in a TV interview where he lamented the fact that he was ignored completely in the family meetings discussing the wedding.
For example, when Aga’s parents called on Charlene’s family to ask for her hand in the traditional Filipino “pamanhikan” allthe members of the Muhlach family were there, as were her mother and brother. But the person who stood as Charlene’s father was Pepito Vera Perez, her mother’s live-in companion.
Now comes another intrigue, with some quarters insinuating that the wedding announcement could be but a career move for the two stars.
The pending cancellation of Aga’s ABS-CBN sitcom Oki Doki Doc is dragged into the issue. The latest rumor is that the show will be taken off the air to give way to a new sitcom that will be topbilled by Aga and Charlene.
The sitcom, they say, will be similar to Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres’ Richard Loves Lucy.
Another reason why many find it hard to believe that the announced forthcoming nuptial of Aga and Charlene is for real, is the fact that for some months, Charlene was being linked with her Keep on Dancing co-host Troy Montero.
Troy is rumored to have cried in his dressing room after watching Charlene’s announcement of her engagement in a TV interview.
The engagement is expected to generate some interest among televiewers and the new Aga-Charlene show could be a better replacement to Aga’s sitcom, which has been suffering from poor ratings.
