Manila, Jan. 9, 1999 - Albert Martinez, who won Best Actor at the 1998
Belgium International Film Festival for playing Jose Rizal, is back to doing
another bold movie, romancing a new and promising sexy actress in "Scorpio
Nights 2."
The actors confesses that it is not easy to leave the sex films behind,
considering the dependence of the movie industry on box office income. Bold
movies continue to be the sure-fire crowd drawers in movie houses, with
quality pictures like "Rizal" being the exception rather than the rule.
"I guess I'm just doing my part as an actor. I have to keep moving, changing
roles, adapting", Albert says with a shy smile.
Albert is paired opposite Joyce Jimenez and Daisy Reyes in "Scorpio Nights
2", which isn't exactly a remake or a sequel to the 80s landmark softporn by
Peque Gallaga. Its script, however, was written by Gallaga in tandem with
Lore Reyes and the film's debuting director, Eric Matti.
Albert says he sees no reason why, after playing Rizal, he should limit
himself only to so-called serious roles or projects.
He sees "Rizal" as just another role an actor has to play in the course of
his career. And so is the role of the physics professor Andrew in "Scorpio 2".
Albert's next project at Viva is a sizzler with Rosanna Roces, "Sa Bisig ni
Adan". He was earlier hesitant to accept a picture with Rosanna. "But I
read the script, and it's very good. I have to do it," he said.
Next month, Albert flies to Germany with Nora Aunor and director Joel
Lamangan to enter "Sidhi" at the Berlin International Film Festival, said
to be the most prestigious filmfest in the world. "Sidhi", a period 50s tale
of marital infidelity, is reportedly being considered in the competition
proper.
After Berlin, "Sidhi" then enters the Brussels International Film Festival
where Albert won his first international best actor award last year for
"Rizal sa Dapitan". Albert has a nude scene witnessed by Nora Aunor in "Sidhi".
