Quezon City, Nov. 30, 2000 - Did you know that if Victor Neri were to have his way, he would have preferred to become a song and dance star? That was, in fact, his priority when he auditioned to become a member of "Ang TV," a former show for newcomers (similar to Kuya Germs Moreno's former show on GMA-7, "That's Entertainment") on ABS-CBN.
Not many know that Victor has a beautiful voice. He can also play several musical instruments. Add to this the fact that he can dance. Which obviously also explains the reason why for a while he was being linked to Jolina Magdangal.
It was Malou Santos, managing director of Star Cinema, who convinced Victor to try action roles. He has the looks, the build and the height of a potential action great, Ms. Malou told Victor.
"For a while," Victor now admits, "I had qualms about doing something which I din't think I could feel at home with, pero sabi ng aking talent manager (referring to Ms. Veanna Fores), why don't I give it a try. Kapag hindi ko raw gusto, then we could tell Malou tama na ang isang action movie for me."
"Ex-Con," Victor's latest movie for Star Cinema is his fifth as an action star. It is his second movie this year, specifically after "Suspek," the action thriller which officially launched him as the Action Star of the New Millennium. "Ex-Con," directed by Victor's favorite megman, Toto Natividad, is calculated to firm up Victor's claim as a member of the new league of action stars with their own identity. He is keeping his fingers crossed that, in no time, he, like his favorite action star, Fernando Poe, Jr., will be a name to reckon with in the action genre.
"I like my role in this movie," Victor remarked with a smile. "Iyong tipong walang kibo, pero huwag mong salingin at tiyak magliliyab."
Victor plays a double agent in "Ex-Con." For his role, Victor sheds his clean-cut image and has himself tattoed all over his body. This work of art, so to speak, caught the attention of ace photographer Jun de Leon, who convinced Victor to pose in the nude for him.
"Ex-Con" marks the first team-up of Victor and Rica Peralejo, who plays the syndicate's head's daughter who easily falls for victor's charm and derring-do. For the first time in "Ex-Con," Rica turns bolder and much sexier. She even agreed to have a bed scene with Victor.
Ex-Con also stars Alex Cortez, Jeffrey Santos, Louie Katana, Toby Alejar, Noni Buencamino, Noel Trinidad, Melissa Mendez, Derek Dee and Patrick de la Rosa. (Ethel Ramos, Malaya)
