However there are numbers like that by Dean Martin "The man who plays

Hemant Kumar classic "Lahron pe lahar" (Chhabili)Ghar Aaya mera pardesi the heaven part of the heaven and hell sequence

plagiarisms you know of. It would be the first step towards the
compilation of a comprehensive directory

I am indeed buoyed by the response I got from Karthik and Indranil.
However Indranil has mentioned that the list is endless. I am trying to
make this a comprehensive list of plagiarism so I would not mind an
endless list. However, I would also request the posters (the people who
post) to include the percentage of plagiarism thus50% if refrain or mukhda has been lifted per se
100% if the total song has been lifted per se
10-30% (discretionary) if interlude music or the likes has been liftedI am carrying on with my list of plagiarisms and hope to consolidate on
a list of at least 500 within a month's time. I would also request
other members to let me know if they dispute some entries.1. Dil tera kisne toda from Dayaavaan (LP) has been lifted from Then

Badha if you play it in slower pace.
Wait a minute! This can hardly be called a "lifted" or "plagiarised" tune if
both the MD's are Hemant Kumar. By that account, put down Salil Chowdhury as the
MD who plagiarised the most, because he has used his original Bengali tunes in
Hindi, Malayalam, Gujarati, Oriya, Assamese, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.
What's wrong with an MD using his own tunes for different songs in different
languages? SDB, and RDB too would qualify as "plagiarisers" under your
qualifications since a lot of their Hindi compositions come from Bengali
originals. For those wise guys who say --- "RDB would qualify in any case under
any qualification"--may you get struck by gout, lumbago, the bubonic plague and
have your crops eaten by locusts.Ketan
....tumse milkar aisa laga ....(parinda) is from a leo sawyer (sayer?)
song...when i need u....incidentally this song was also covered by rod
stewart....zindagi milke bitayenge...(satte pe satta) ...is from a southern( as in
southern u.s. ) marching song that was popular during the civil war......na bole tum na maine kuch kaha...(baaton baaton mein) ....is from a
really really popular march tune that u hear in countless american
movies....and yes...also during NBA games!!...raja ko rani se pyar ho gaye...(akele hum akele tum) ...is lifted from
the godfather love theme....tune o rangeele kaise jadoo kiya ...(kudrat..old) ...is from the classic
SD bengali song...haye ki kori go e mono niya.......khali haath shaam aayi ...(ijaazat)..is from another SD song...malakhani
chhilo haatheymachal machal jaata hai( some mid 80s RD movie) and jab bhi koi kangna
bole(shaukeen) have the same SD (bengali) source.....raina beet jayen(amar prem), beeti na beeti raina...have remarkable
similarities to a couple of SD songs( i forget which).
plagiarism , i think, is a SERIOUS indian sin.....i did my schooling in St.
Xaviers Calcutta...and we used to have this school anthem "proud of our
school.."etc with a really catchy tune......imagine my surprise when one
week after landing here, i was watching a notre dame football game....lo and
behold....the irish fight song sounds exactly like my school anthem......so
much for our holy fathers!!!
Ravi Krishna where are you?Couple more that other RMIMers told me.
Ab ke na sawan barse-Kinara is from SD original "kNadibo na
phaguno gele"
Mithe bol bole-Kinara is from SD original "Madhu Brindaban-e dole
Shyam-Rai"ps:Since its RD copying from SD, Ketan would call it as
Inheritance rather than Plagiarism:)
Have you heard enough songs from other countries so as
to take the liberty to label plagiarism as an *Indian*
sin. Many Spanish songs I hear are lifted from
recent English tunes. Even recent English hits
like "groovy lind of love", "puttin on the ritz"
were lifted from old english songs of the 40's
and 60's. Recently UB40 re-recorded an Elvis hit.
But I am sure nobody accuses these songs, calling
plagiarism a national sin.I generally refrain from posting something that
is not directly related to information on music.
I agree that plagiarism is a sin, but I
vehemently oppose plagiarism being called an
Indian sin.-Prithviraj
dekhta hoon kahin larki haseen from sanam teri kasam ...is partially taken
from an old pakistani religious song.....incidentally there was a more
recent song ...ya mustapha ya mustapha from a sunjay dutt movie that was
taken from the same song.
there is a song in indrajeet which goes main na jhoot bolun, main na kufr
tolun....the first part of the song is taken from a pakistani song.tu meri zindagi hain from ashiqui is lifted straight from a pakistani song...and of course ....tu cheez bari hai mast mast ...from dam mast kalandar.
chori chori yun jab ho .....from some sunny deol movie is a straight lift of
walk like an egyptian.there are a couple of songs from yugpurush that are lifted from
rabindrasangeet tunes....one from pagla hawa badol dine, one is actually a
hybrid of aguner poroshmoni and a song from anondo ashrom.....amar shopno
tumi...
....etc.....etc.....etc....i think we are slowly moving from the category of
sin to MAHA sin!! :-)
Do remember that for whatever reasons(MTV, V etc), you can't just say that the
older musicians were as guilty as the newer ones. You need proof. It is possible
that the newer ones just find it so easy to copy tunes BECAUSE of MTV/V.

Can you tell me how a composer who is deliberately trying to compose in Raga
Hamsadhwani can compose in this raga and not make it sound like a classical
piece also in the same raga? Is MM's Madhuvanti of the EXACT (emphasis on exact)
nature as the classical Madhuvanti? Remember it should have no impurities at
all, to meet your criteria.

I am having doubts on your sanity and power of reasoning.
You would call an innocent person a thief and then to cover
up your foolhardiness you would say "I accused him because I
was just trying to find out whether he was a thief". Pretty
demented and sick way of finding out who the MD of a song is.
Ignorance, when admitted, is not shameful, but trying to
guise your ignorance under false accusations on others.
- stinks.-Prithviraj
