Hi, I'm pretty sure I know what's going on but wanted to confirm.  I'd rather not recompile at this time if I don't have to as the backend has been pretty stable.

I'm on MythTV v27 and after configuring Torc in settings for my server IP/port I can see my recordings, etc. but not able to start streaming on my iPad.

I'm able to get to the MythTV hosted site in step 1, but JW Player doesn't seem to work the way you're describing.  For example, I'm being asked by JWPlayer to sign up for an account and the only download is of what looks to be javascript and HTML5 code to embed in a web page.

Any help would be appreciated.

OK, so I saw the Install JW Player button which I missed when I first went to the "3rd Party Software" page.  Now I'm unable to do the install as the server is looking for a un/pw and the usual suspects aren't working.  Is there something specific it's looking for and where can I find that on the mythtv server configuration?

Hi Mark,

You'd need to ask the MythTV guys about getting the JWPlayer working (There wasn't a password the last time I had to install it, perhaps this is something new added in .27), but I'd hazard a guess that your MythTV was not compiled with the correct libx264 and libmp3lame flags.  You may want to check the "Streaming Requirements" section on the help page:

The fact that you're able to see the recordings/etc. means the backend is responding to API requests, but the failure to stream strongly suggests the above.  Once you have streaming working via JWPlayer (hopefully the Myth guys can help out with that) you should find that it works via the app as well.

Best,

Robert

I think I figured out what was going on.  The portal needs the un/pw that was defaulted during install (will have to change that one) and I was able to get it to try to install.  I was then having some issues with the intall button not allowing an install to occur.  Seems I had the wrong permissions on the ~/.mythtv/tmp folder.  The install works but I'm getting an error in playing a stream.  Seems like I'm going to have to recompile. :(

Thanks for the help.

Final note (hopefully).

I was pretty sure I compiled MythTV with the settings needed.  My root cause after getting JW Player installed was me mucking with the config.xml file in .mythtv.  Once restored to original file, I can now stream on the iOS app.   I have a few more questions but will post those in a separate thread.
