I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a new laptop (toshiba z930). I added the two repository as in the instructions

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:moshe-wagner/orayta
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install –no-install-recommends orayta orayta-books

I get the following errors to the last command:

E: Unable to locate package –no-install-recommends
E: Unable to locate package orayta
E: Unable to locate package orayta-books

I tried without the -no-install-recommends option and i still get the following errors:

E: Unable to locate package orayta
E: Unable to locate package orayta-books

In the Ubuntu Software Center app, the search 'orayta' returns no results. Suggestions?

Second question: I have an LGP970 (Optimus Black), currently running Gingerbread 2.3, and Orayta runs happily on it (albeit without the search function). LG now provides an upgrade to 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and I would like to upgrade, but will give up if Orayta does not run on that version of Android.

I am afraid that I have become quite dependent on the Android version, particularly because of a non-trivial commute.

BTW to the developers, Great App!!! But you probably already knew that, didn't you?

He probably means 12.04, it's more stable and less of a resource-hog.
Though it shouldn't make a difference in regards to his question.

what version of ubuntu?
currently i see there is a problem with 13.04 and 12.10, but there shouldn't be a problem with 12.04.
for mint it is recommended to install orayta from source.

No, I did try on 12.04. Here are the commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:moshe-wagner/orayta
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install

And the errors are posted above.

I ended up downloading the .deb files for the program and the books and installing manually. Won't get updates but at least I have the program running now. The only trouble is that the book names are not in Hebrew but some strange strings (vaguely related to the book names in Hebrew).

Also, do you have any info on how the program runs on Android 4.0.4. As I wrote in the first posting, I currently run Gingerbread 2.3 and can upgrade but won't do it unless Orayta runs.

Thanks in advance! And Kol HaKavod on a great (no so) little program!!

While I am asking questions, I might as well ask the following: On the Android version there is a book גמרא נוחה. That's one of the most useful books, especially for Daf Yomi. I can't seem to find it in the Ubuntu version. Is it available somewhere? Thanks in advance!

it should be available if you are using the daily repository. otherwise you can download it manualy http://code.google.com/p/orayta/source/browse/#svn%2Fbooks%2F032_gmara_nocha
of course you'll also need a recent version of orayta as well to use it properly.
