IMO hiding away even one work in the Group of Seven collection temporarily
is a lapse of judgment on the part of the directors of the Art Gallery of
Ontario. How many people take guests from other countries to the AGO to show
them Canadian art by our famous landscape artists because they don't have
time for a trip out of town to Kleinburg's McMichael Gallery? I know they're
mounting special Group of Seven displays, but that's not enough. Anyone have
views on this debacle? It seems this is the newsgroup for discussion of it.

The AGO has far, far, more art than they could ever display all at once.

There are always, many, many, pieces in storage.

True. And of those, many don't deserve permanent display. Other surplus
items even go on sale in a special shop on the premises. But in my view, the
Group of Seven paintings and certain other artworks owned by the AGO deserve
permanent display because of their artistic and historical merits, as well
as for the public's desire to view them (see above).

BTW, thanks for your reply. It's the only one in about a week since I posted
originally, in what's become a virtually moribund newsgroup, except for
advertisements.

That should read "in about a fortnight".
