Hello All,

At the last Toronto Plone Users Group meeting we were discussing the right way to get under the hood while introducing content type creation to new users/developers. One of the issues that arose is whether we should be talking about Archetypes or Dexterity. I thought I would pass along this fragment of a blog post because it is relevant to the discussion:

Archetypes

Plone 5 should be the last major release with Archetypes compatibility. For form based content types, Dexterity is the future. We will want to provide a simple migration route for existing content (by automatically creating a persistent Dexterity schema). Any custom templates or views would require manual updates.

Archetypes remains supported in Plone 4 and Plone 5, which is perhaps a couple of years away from release, but it is clearly deprecated. So, while it is probably important to ensure that people are aware of Archetypes, it appears that we should be steering them away from using it for any new development.
