Good morning,

The Massachusetts Secretary of Energy & Environmental Affairs recently declared a critical drought for northeastern Massachusetts which requires us to implement water restrictions.  The current drought level requires a total ban on nonessential outdoor water use.

On 12/2, the Select Board voted to implement a mandatory Total Outdoor Water Use Ban per the Town’s Water Restriction By-law which prohibits non-essential outdoor use until further notice.  The restriction applies to all water users including private well owners.  Essential uses are allowed and include those needed by permit or regulation, needed for public health or safety or required to meet a core function of a business or organization.  The restriction will remain in effect until further notice.

Typically our water restrictions are in the summer months from May through September.  Droughts can be multi-year events and this restriction may very well last into the spring and perhaps through the summer depending on how much precipitation we get.

Thank you,

Greg
