howcan you move photos from Gallery to anywhere else on the phone, if the Gallery displays all pics from the phone regardless of the folder?

you need to find either the 'Albums' tab or folder, or sort pictures by 'album' (folder? directory? location? bcoz all that would do the same thing) and not by name or date;

for example, when i go to Gallery, the default thing i see is 'Pictures' tab , and all the pictures there seem to be sorted by date, i can't seem to find anything to make it sort by other categories,

but if i go to 'Albums' , i can now see the option 'Sort' ;

odd that Xiaomis gallery allows sorting everywhere, but neither the S20 Ultra nor Xiaomi can display images location on a map, like Huawei gallery does, screen from P40Pro->

and yes, Huawei Gallery app uses Google Maps to show pics on the google map ? despite having no google services, so yea, i just to to Gallery app and in top right corner i have a location icon, i tap on that and i now can see pics on the map, Samsung seem to sort pics by location and show place name under pictures, but if the pic was taken where no city is, it will display some nearest place?

the Gallery on the Samsung is not really user friendly, i go with file explorer, or even better file explorer from Xiaomi (can install it on any other phone) bcoz it has a FTP shortcut in order to access the phone internal storage from any computer on the same WiFi as the phone

I've got exactly the same problem, on my new Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. When I select to 'move photo from gallery to an album', the photo still remains in Gallery. And, worse, when I 'delete' the photo from Gallery, it's being deleted from both locations (gallery and album). The same happens when I select to 'copy photo from gallery to an album'.

My question is: - How do I move a photo from Gallery to an album, so that afterwards, the photo resides in the album only, and not in Gallery ?

best regards, Ragnabet

you can't, gallery displays all pictures that are on your phone, moving a picture does nothing to the gallery;

the 'move to album' is short for 'move the file from any location to an album of my choice'

if the picture is on your phone, it will be in the gallery, gallery is not a folder, therefore can't move anything from, or to gallery.

if you have some pics that your gf shouldn't see, just don't give her your phone.

maybe on the old phone you could choose folders that gallery has access to,

on the S20 series there appears to be no such option;

now i got curious myself an found something like 'secure folder' and this page here->

so pretty much what the page says to do, you do reverse in order to hide pictures, other than that there doesn't seem to be any option available;

of course one trick would be to create a 'gallery' folder, and then hide the 'Gallery' app, then you can choose what lands in the 'gallery' folder while the hidden 'Gallery' app shows all pictures;

now if you remove the permissions from the Gallery app, like the 'files and media' you will be prompted to change the settings when you try to launch the Gallery app;

I know exactly what you are saying! I have the newest phone and it does the same!! I preferred the old way. Looked in settings n nothing! Frustrating as then I was able to organize delete my photos easier!

My understanding is that "Events" in iPhoto are now "Albums" in Photos and the requirement to move a photo from one Event or Album to another is still desirable, why can't this feature be found, in the new improved Photos app, or am I missing something.

There is no copying involved. When you drag an image into another album all you're doing is placing a pointer (kind of like an alias) to the original image in its Moment. There's no duplication of files involved.

Correct, ........But the previous versions allowed you to move not copy the pointer or alias to another album by holding down the OPTION ket which is an Apple GUI standard across all products but was lost in this version !!!!

The Moments are the new events. Every photo will be in exactly one moment. And they are created automatically for you based on capture date and location. Albums are very different from events or moments, since a photo can be in many albums at the same time. Dragging between albums has been implemented to add to an album, but not to remove from the original album. But simply click the delete kay after selecting and dragging to a different album, then the dragged photos will be removed from the original album.

I hate to disagree but in iPhoto it was possible to move a photo from one event to another, you simply opened up the two events at the same time and dragged from one to the other. Hopefully it will be possible in Photo but I have only just started using it and not found a way yet.

I've got two smart albums, one that selects all pictures from 2014 (smart list 1) and one that is showing all pictures from 2014 that are not in an album (smart list 2). I've also removed all of the 2014 pictures from any normal albums (including the albums created from events). However, I am showing about 200 (or 20%) pictures that are in smart list 1 and not in smart list 2. I can't think of any albums that these pictures would be in.

I do not think moments are the new events nor anything like them unless you imported ever photo into iPhoto defaulting to dated events and even then they could be multiple locations. They provide a completely different functionality.

I can't find a way either. Here's what I gather it will have to be. I have to put ALL of my photos in the Photos folder. Inside that folder will be whatever I named the folder to sync in iTunes. (In my case, iPad Pics.) So if in that folder I have pictures of (just to use fake categories) girlfriends, dogs, bike, cars and house, I can create other folders on the iPad for each of those categories, and then copy the pics that belong in those folders to the right place. That will NOT remove them from iPad Pics, but when viewing, if I want to show people pics of just my dogs, or just my bike, or just my..... I have to do it in those subfolders rather than in the iPad Pics folder.

Having this problem with my new a54.

I restored all my photos and videos to this a54 through smart switch from a backup I had from my old a51. Around 1000 videos and photos had lost their date and time data, but when i try to move them to albums to organise them, they aren't removed from the gallery. So i end up with 1000 random videos and photos from years apart all on the same date and time.

This is not addressing the issue. I have 390 photos in a shared album. One recipient can see 104. Another recipient can see 108 photos. Both have the recommended settings and available storage. Why is this occurring and how can we fix it?

Thank you SravanKrA! After a bit more testing we realized that this issue is persisting across users- for example my husband has posted photos that aren't showing up on my device. We've had this issue since Friday which is a very long delay for a syncing issue. Is there any way to resolve without deleting the album entirely?

If pictures you've recently posted in your shared album on your iPhone are showing locally on your device but not on others, there could be a few possible reasons for this issue. Here are some common factors that may be causing the problem:

If you have confirmed that others have accepted the shared album invitation and are still experiencing issues, it might be helpful to have them check their settings and troubleshoot their iCloud Photo Sharing configuration as well.

This is absolutely a bug. Spoke to support today who screenshared my settings on my devices and all is set up correctly. Some pictures go in, but 90% don't. An icloud bug that needs to be fixed. All happened because apple doesn't let you have more than one watch per apple ID, so I had to create a whole new apple ID for my phone so now all our pictures no longer sync.

It is now June of 2024 and still having the same problem. In fact, the album isn't even syncing to my own phone from my MAC much less to the people I shared the album with. The photos all got to the phone, but not the tags putting them in to my album. Help Apple!

I had an issue creating new shared albums and then it would just disappear or not even appear. After following instructions to turn off/on shared album in settings it still DID NOT work. It wasn't until I went to my shared album thinking what if i deleted an album and I saw the plus icon show up in the top left corner and tried to ADD a shared album but it prompted me that "CANNOT CREATE SHARED ALBUM, YOU CAN ONLY HAVE 200 SHARED ALBUMS. DELETE AN EXISTING ONE AND TRY AGAIN" - I'm in the process of deleting old shared albums and hoping this will help solve our issues. Good luck!

Note that all devices are independent. I just left my device with the pics on wifi and plugged in to get the cloud updated which made sure everything was available to other devices. Then at anytime, the other device does the same and they get there.

By the way, the AI training takes additional time. Training appears to happen over many hours out in the cloud (not on your device), so you won't be able to search for all your "cat" pictures until more time has passed. I suspect this is a variable delay as they probably train on your pictures as a lower priority than whatever else they have those computers doing during peak hours.
