TopComb Seminar resumes Oct 21

Dear all,
After two weeks off the Topological Combinatorics seminar is back!

For the next 2 or 3 meetings, Alex P. and I will discuss the
calculation of the integral cohomology ring of moment angle complexes,
namely the isomorphism with the Tor-algebra of the face ring of the
associated simplicial complex.

I will be speaking tomorrow and I will set the stage for this
calcuIation. I'll give a brief review of face rings and in particular
their resolutions and Tor-algebras. My goal will be to establish the
additive part of the isomorphism desribed above, and hopefully I'll
have time to work out an example to illustrate the various objects
involved.

I will be loosely following Panov's lecture notes (available on the
website), filling in details where I think they're needed. Note that
our book only establishes the result for *field* coefficients, using a
spectral sequence approach and the realization of the moment angle
complexes as a pullback of the inclusion of the DJ space into the
classifying space of a torus. We will say more about this approach in
future meetings (if there's interest).
