as this may be of interest to others, i include  the topodroid mailing list.

pixels issue

i do not think that the tip belongs to the user manual of topodroid: the app opens a communication with the device, the connection is done by the adroid.

details about how to connect to bluetooth devices should be in the android user manual.

sketch save

as for the "special character" ( that is the characters not allowed in file names by the Windows os ) the problem is that the android system fails to create files whose name contains a special character - afaik this is because of the underlying filesystem, the choice of which was probably dictated by market considerations.

to avoid this problem i am going to set topodroid to refuse names that have a special character.

the other option is to replace any special character with some other character, or drop it, but i think it is better to make the user avoid them.

I tried several times, turned off and restarted disto and bluetooth on phone and that seems to work perfectly.

That’s strange because disto doesn’t appear in bluetooth devices on phone… but that’s work, so it’s ok !

I have a lot of friends who have this problem with an google pixel and don't know this tip, maybe it should be explained in the manual?

I don’t remember, < and > for sure, others too.

these special characters cause errors with filenames.

i added it to the set of special characters that are replaced by others that do not cause problems in filenames.

Here I have only xble, but monday I can try with X2.

about sketch disappearance: 

save on close is done in background but it should complete by the time you reopen the sketch, unless the sketch is really big.

have you enabled sketch cache ? with cache sketched are kept in memory until you close the survey.

Same probleme of sketch disappearance but without specials character in the name, randomly, and not the whole sketch. 

I draw, leave the sketch editor, part of the drawing has disappeared, I redraw then it works for the rest of the day.

It looks like an autosave problem. 

These last two problems occur on other phones than Pixel too.
