smartphone to smartphone backup

Hi all,

Unless I'm unaware of the process, there is no easy smartphone to smartphone backup process for surveys done using TD. 

I just come back from an expedition In Laos where we have been surveying caves in remote places for decades now. Although we are now using DistoX and TD on the field, we still using a notebook to ensure the basic data (survey shoots and LRDUs) will come back to a safe place, out of the jungle. This remains a necessary massive waste of time and energy: It happened to us several times that our smartphones died on the field before we could transfer the data to a safe place and were only left with our paper notebook...

Would there be a way to get an easy backup/transfer of the surveys from one smartphone to another, Topodroid to Topodroid, other than a basic export to file>Bluetooth>file tranfer? This would also allow the differents survey teams to go on the field with all the survey parts on there phone, which can be very practical.

As far as I know, this data transfer is done through a ZIP file.

I don't understand why you don't use this method?
I think I don't understand the question exactly.
Why exactly shouldn't we use Bluetooth or wifi to transfer a ZIP file?
Why should we use a cable?

Plus 1 for OTG cable and a USB drive.

Also, you can export survey as a zip file, rename it if you want, and use the phone file transfer app to put that on the uSD card so it is still there if the phone dies.

thanks for your replies. OTG cable/USB stick seems an interesting and light solution. To transfer a survey from one smartphone to another, the survey is exported as zip file and reloaded in another device using survey import, do I get this right? If yes, do the survey "behave" normally like if it was created directly in the secondary device or is there any limitations?

there is no distinction between imported surveys and created surveys.

if the two topodroid are different the zip import may fail (if there is something that the app does not know how to handle)
