Preferred Methods to go Form Topodroid to Publishing Maps

Topodroid fans, 

I'm looking for your preferred ways to go from using Topodroid to publishing maps. I have Therion, CSurvey, CaveRenderPro, Walls, Compass. I'm struggling to find an efficient way to take the Topo data and sketches into a printable map. I don't feel there is a need to spend hours on the computer editing what was already created in Topodroid.

I'm the furthest along with CSurveyPC, however, importing is broken, but opening sketches works. Some of the icons, or "signs" didn't work and needed an additional file. I have it if anyone wants it. 

Therion is too time-consuming and archaic.

CaveRenderPro doesn't recognize the CSV export.

Compass seems a bit involved, but I might just need a good tutorial. 

Walls - haven't yet tried. 

If you have any good videos or ideas, I'd be open to checking them out.

Hi Jeff,

As a user of only therion, I find no problems with using it. Yes I’ve spent a few years learning it and the are a few tips and tricks but a few friends now use it as their primary surveying tool, if you find a few friends that are also using it then you may find that getting from topodroid sketch to pdf will take one button. And adding it to a larger sketch may take minutes.

Not sure about any of the others, but therion can output a kml which can be used in google maps overlaying and/or GIS. (In again one button)

As a user, I am biased, but then again for projects big and small I wouldn’t use anything else.

When I tried this I came to the conclusion that exporting Topodroid sketches to InkScape or Adobe Illustrator was no worse than all the other method Walls etc.

Illustrator and SVG files. Don't over invest in sketching in Topodroid, unless you like to do everything twice.

That's great news. Do you have any videos that might help me get there? I keep getting some errors, and I think it's due to not understanding what prompts to use in the compiler window after I have imported the Topodroid data and scrap files. I couldn't locate any documentation for the error on the wiki.

Sketch in Topodroid, export in cSurvey, some corrections and additions (scale, compass, info box) on the PC and last thing with Paint.net I join plan and section. It's a very fast process with small surveys.

Hi all, 

I rarely use the sketch feature in TD. I do loads of splays which implies spending lots of time in the cave, time enough to get to know what I will have to draw.

I export to *.CSV and import in CaveRenderPro. Import csv from TD does work really well: Jochen improved the CSV import last year and it does the job for at least direct+backsight shots, LRDUs at . I does the drawings in CRP, it's easy and it now allows layers (i.e. drawings). Having so many splays, CRP is of great help to visualise, understand the cave in 3D and draw the 2D chart. When I'm happy with the drawing, I export as SVG into Illustrator to finalize the layout.

HI Marco,

I have taken in Jeff's files by Personal message, they are good enough to press a button and output a simple pdf.

I note recently you have moved some things from the .thconfig file to the .th file, is there a reason for this? As now when users hit the config/gear/cog button on Therion 9 times out of ten they are faced with an error message.

 Me and a friend were discussing this in Spain a week ago, but I wasn't going to message you about it as I saw it as an "us" problem. but if first time users of Therion are being turned away by error messages which need not be there then I think we need a rethink of the output from Topodroid which is created for therion.

Below is my thoughts on the.th file and what I gave to Jeff "RGB.thconfig" to make his files work.

name.thconfig #if you include the name followed by a dot then thconfig, then windows users can double click this and it will open the config window.

Yes Jeff, with cSurvey I can get a complete printout for my Regional Cave Register, and the print is with the updated geographic correction. As an addition I can also have the .kml file and the 3D file. This is thanks to Therion that works as CSurvey "engine".

that was a left-over from the attempt to avoid using the filesystem functions.

the try was a failure: too messy, it required too much user action (unnecessary while one is surveying), and more confusion ...

i went back to using the file functions, and gave up putting td on google play

(this is not the place to comment the way google is going with android and other products)

it will be back to the separate thconfig file with the next version.

i cannot tell when but i will try to get one out soon. at least as testing apk.
