As one example, my normal 39 drafts per week is now at 174 this week:
39 first reads, 45 2nd reads, and 90 peer critiques!
I have to be frank here - there is no way I can meet this demand in
one week. Even if I just add 15 extra drafts to my weekly quota, it
would take me nine weeks to plow through my current total (not
including the second round of 1.2 drafts and the 45 writing reviews
tacked on the last week of the semester).
CIs - please inform your students that their peer critiques will take
several weeks longer to get back than their 1.1 essay drafts.
Also, you may want to inform students that they may be getting very
short comments on the peer critiques (perhaps just the rubric
description for the grade). Since they are not completing a second
peer critique in 1301, I don't think it is as necessary to provide
detailed comments about how to improve their next peer critique. They
will get this kind of instruction in 1302.
Thanks for passing along this information to your students - a
proactive approach will help reduce the number complaints from
students about "delayed" grades.
