New to TopBraid EDG 8.5

Hi everyone,
I am new to this group and new to working with TopBraid Edg 8.5. I am currently trying to build an Ontology and populate it with instances, but I am finding some parts of EDG a bit implicit and hard to understand, especially around how the Ontology , data graphs and instances modeling can fit together in practice.

I am not planning to use SHACL as of now, want to start simple, and my focus is mainly on understanding the core and best practices for building Ontologies and instances in TopBraid EDG.
Any recommendation on learning material, documentation, tutorials, or example regarding the TopBraid EDG 8.5 would be highly appreciated.

Hi,

The EDG UI for editing instances is based on an underlying GraphQL schema that is generated from SHACL. UI is entirely model-driven.

So, you are going to need to generate SHACL for your OWL, often customer create a second collection to keep the SHACL and OWL separate. There is an OWL2SHACL converter to get you started in the Transforms tab.

One you have SHACL, make the classes of interest “public” so EDG UI knows what subset of the schema you want to populate in a Data Graph and then make a Data Graph based on that SHACL.
