Hi,
So I downloaded 6.4 today to try on my Mac which is Catalina 10.15.5 with the app security settings to allow to run untrusted sources.
However it says TopBraid Composer.app is damaged and won't run if I use right-click- open.
Is this a known issue? I couldnt find any relevant FAQ issues on the site.
Thanks & kind regards
Elvin

Hello Elvin,

This is a known issue that is addressed on the FAQ page for TBC.  (https://www.topquadrant.com/knowledge-assets/faq/tbc/)  I am copying over the relevant information for convenience:

On Mac OSX I am getting the error TopBraid Composer.app is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

Due to a change with how Apple’s security settings work in the recent versions of osx you may see an error when launching a new version of TopBraid Composer.

  • Quit out of System Preferences, if you have it open
  • Open the Terminal app from the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and then type (not cut/paste) the following command:sudo spctl –master-disable. Make sure you have a double dash before the “master”.
  • Hit return and authenticate with an admin password.
  • Relaunch System Preferences and go to “Security & Privacy” and the “General” tab.
  • You will now see the “Anywhere” option under ‘Allow apps downloaded from:’ Gatekeeper options.
  • If it is not filled in, open the lock in the bottom right corner of  ”Security & Privacy” then click the circle next to the “Anywhere” option.
  • Now double click on TBCME, then click the open button when the prompt appears.
  • If you encounter problems following these instructions, you can find many web pages offering detailed instructions with step by step screenshots. Just search for “allow apps downloaded from anywhere mac os”.

It is a frequently asked question.

You can also google this message e.g.

It is not anything unique to TBC

Thanks for the answers but my security settings have been set to allow apps from Anywhere, and still it won't run.
I might try the xattr fix but that feels quite hacky. Will report back.

My personal experience (I am also using Mac) is that I sometimes look at Settings and see Anywhere, but the install does not work. I still have to run the command (sometimes twice) and then it works.

This works for me:

1. Right-click the TopBraid Composer application to bring up the context menu
2. Hold down the Shift key
3. With Shift held, click Open in the context menu
4. This should bring up a dialog with three options: “Move to Bin”, “Open” and “Cancel”
5. Release the Shift key
6. Select “Open”.

I need to do this only the first time I start TBC. The next time, I simply double-click the application.

I have the “Allow apps downloaded from” preference set to “App Store and identified developers”.

I don't think I ever did anything on the command line to get these steps working, but maybe I forget something I did years ago.

Currently I'm on Catalina 10.15.6.

So yeah this guy had the same problem as me apparently
and a fix was posted that worked for me:
cp -RX /path/to/program.app /different/path.app
Could be helpful for future reference!
Thanks for all the help, cheers
