Q: QUDT - How to model Differential Pressure

Hi,

I have a need to say that a value represents "Differential Pressure" - e.g. the difference between two pressures as measured in a system.  I see that there is a quantitykind:Pressure instance.  Is there a specific way to attach a modifier to indicate that the value, while a Pressure, is derived as the difference between two pressures?  I suspect I can add something like it via edg:PhysicalPropertyKind or some other extension point but I wanted to check and see if this situation has already been considered.

Tim,

I'd say the best way is to submit a new quantity kind instance for the QUDT vocabulary. You could call it quantitykind:DifferentialPressure (although we just finished refining our unit naming rules here, and we may revisit our quantity kind naming rules. If so, we might suggest quantitykind:Pressure_Differential as the qname). Regardless, the quantity kind submission guidelines are here, where you can see what we require. The logical thing would then be to include a skos:broader relation pointing to quantitykind:Pressure.

Hi Steve,

I will look over the guidelines and make a submission.  While I would prefer Differential Pressure (just because it sounds better), if we follow the ISA coding standard, something that measures differential pressure is abbreviated as:

PDIT which means Pressure Differential Indicating Transmitter per the chart below.  (https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/isa-intrumentation-codes-d_415.html).  Interestingly enough, internally we have informally changed PDIT to DPIT which confuses any algorithm that tries to decode it :)

So Pressure_Differential fits very well.

Note that you can make the rdfs:label nice and human-friendly.

That's what is shown in EDG, for example. (Which we now offer as a QUDT interface here!)
