Good afternoon,

I expected this question would have been asked already, but I could not find it. I would like to get the best of both worlds and Edit in TBCME and in TBC EDG. Is that possible? I found that EDG edits can be found in \TBCMEWorkspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.e4.workbench and other directories. However I do not recognise a file type or DB handle to connct to with TBCME.

If it is possible, please let me know how.

Kind regards,

Bart Bink.

Hi Bart,

EDG in TBC is not intended or supported for use in this way. It is provided for the demonstration purposes for customers that want to first evaluate TopBraid EDG locally in order to make a decision about purchasing the server version. Possibly, demonstrate it to other decision makers, etc.

TBC and EDG are two separate systems. When running EDG in TBC, these systems happen to be using the same workspace, but the supported use case is to use them as two separate systems - as it would be if they were installed in the actual deployment: EDG on the server for a group of users and TBC locally for a single developer who may be preparing artifacts for deployment into EDG.

EDG does not work with files, it uses a database. EDG will create the database automatically, by default, in a project called Repositories (although this can be changed in the server admin console).

You must create asset collections (graphs) in EDG. Each asset collection will have 2 connector handles to open an asset collection - one for data and one for change history (the latter graphs have .tch extension). There are also some graphs EDG will always install as part of the repository e.g., users, workflows, systems, enumerations, etc. See below.

In principle, you could create asset collections in EDG, then open them in TBC, but as per above, this is not a supported use case to be switching between editing systems. You need to be careful and not to work with them at the same time. If you have one of these graphs open in TBC, do not do anything in EDG until you closed whatever you had opened in TBC.

If you are careful and know what you are doing, it could work in some limited way, but if you run into any problems with switching between using TBC as an editor and using EDG as an editor, we will not be able to help you.
