G'day,
I have procured office space that will be partly used for Toowoomba
Linux - I would like this to be a pick up/drop off space for recycled
computers.

I have been in contact with the Salvation Army Crisis Centre and they
need over 400 computer!! So the need is desperate.

I'm looking for interested volunteers who would be interested in
reconditioning these computers - last count I have around 20-25.

I have returned to creating a custom OS but will need help doing the
Help section and Beta testing.

If you can spare a little of your time it would be greatly appreciated
for a worthwhile cause. I will look for a good diagnostic Live CD OS
or if someone knows one....

I won't be doing any LUG gatherings but in the new year be holding
entry level introduction and information sessions for new Linux
Users. But I do still believe there is a place for a fully fledged
LUG operating in the Toowoomba area.....

Cheers
Martin

G'day,
Ultimate Boot CD seems a good choice unless someone has a better
suggestion. Will download and have copies available for volunteers to
recondition/adopt a computer.

I'll have time after the next 10 days to held with any 'redux'
recycling, Martin - please count me in. I agree with the need for UBCD
- absolutely invaluable for diagnosis and rebuild projects, better
than Hiren's for older hardware, which seems to be missing drivers for
the old CD players. I've tried to use similar from the Linux community
(e.g., Trinity) - found them very difficult and they would probably
alienate 'Mums and Dads'-level users.

Cheers

i got more time on my hands than i know what to do with.
as soon as i can convince my slow internet to download a copy of UBCD
i can help out.
i also have some old hardware i can 'donate' to the cause. just a few
bits and bobs, more ram chips than
you can shake a stick at, a few cd drives, a floppy or 2, plenty of
cables, heatsinks and about 10 dialup modems
and 2 motherboards. if anyone needs this stuff let me know.

Hi...I am still lurking about and rebuilding and testing things.
Quite willing to download stuff for anyone (within reason).
I been "collecting" stuff, video cards cd roms  and a few 256mb sdram chips etc.
I have enough bits but am lacking in the area of monitors to make  up complete packages, any ideas on getting  a supply of good used moitors ??
