G'day Toowoomba Linux,
Been away from Linux stuff for a couple of months due to a number of
reasons. That's why this is the first post in a while; so I'll get
straight to the point.

I have been pondering an issue, and from much enquiry and
investigation, have come to a conclusion. The needs of advanced
Toowoomba linux users are not being met by this group, which is
focussed on entry level people.

What do I mean by this? Most LUGs sucessfully meet the needs of linux
users by conducting meetings and gatherings that inform and challenge
these advanced users. These meetings not only discuss "what's new"
but also include programmers and sys admin stuff and having speakers
from local computing courses to talk about advanced linux "stuff".
"Most" new users find little interest in this "stuff", needing time
and encouragement to get their heads around the basics; in fact
advanced linux talk disengages the "newbie". And the opposite tends
to be true as well - "basic" linux operations tutorials disengage the
advance user.

I have said this a number of times, that my focus is on the entry
level linux person and marketing linux to the general public. I don't
have the expertise, the time, or the motivation to conduct, or
organise, advanced linux meetings. I have no idea of system admin,
PHP, the Kernel, or Python stuff - it just doesn't interest me.
However, I acknowledge that these are areas of interest to advanced
users. The talent that Toowoomba has in advanced linux is momentous
and overwhelming. It is a shame that I am not able to create a
support group for you and harness this talent.

Consequently, I am splitting The Toowoomba Linux Community and the
Toowoomba Linux Users Group to facilitate a definitive demarkation
between the beginner and the advanced user; the "newbie" will not
think they have to wade through "geek stuff" to get the info and know-
how that they're after. Most "newbies" just want a simple alternative
to Windows and are not interested in "Geek Stuff". There will, of
course, be cross-polination and cooperation between the two entities
as a number of "newbies" will be interested in migrating to advanced
linux operations; and there will be need and opportunity for advanced
users to be involved in "basic" events.

As a result, I am giving up any controlling influence in TLUG and
allowing a person(s) who has maturity and motivation to take the
reins. This will allow myself, and other interested people to focus
on TLC. It may be an idea to ressurect the USQ LUG instead of TLUG as
the foundations still appear to be intact.

Could interested parties PM me so I can pass on access and passwords
for the TLUG sites.

Cheers
Martin
