in the interests of getting a bit of activity going here again i
thought i might post this here instead of
my usual haunt over at the linux mint forums.

currently my biggest issue is that i need a reliable piece of printing
software thats able to work with a printer that can print on a compact
disc, i'm looking at getting a printer for this exact purpose, but i
really would like to not need to swap over to my windows partition
every time i need to do a print job. anyone know of something i can
use?

second item of interest: cinnamon desktop.
has anyone seen / heard of / used it?
thinking of installing it but its still in development, i like the
look of it but as its still in dev, i'm worried i might still need my
old desktop to fall back on and i have no idea what i'm doing in
regards to 2 desktops on one machine. can someone give me some
pointers there?

third item: using linux as a media center.
i essentially want to use my laptop to stream pictures music and video
to my other devices (psp, playstation3, xbox360) in much the same way
windows media center does to the xbox. ive done it before with a media
server program but i actually forgot what program it was, and it was
also rather limited, could only stream music files, was also very slow
even though it was on a wired network. anyone got some advice?

i honestly hope that we can not only solve these issues, but also
promote a little activity here.

G'day Malcolm,
gLabels works for me - most Cannon, Epson and HP Printers work pretty
well (decent drivers - I'm a bit of a HP fan) - just change the tray
settings when printing.

Cinnamon Desktop ... no haven't heard of it but will look it up. if
they've done the development right you should get a choice of Desktops
at the login screen (GDM, KDM, SliM, XDM, etc...) so you should be
able to restore your old desktop as long as Cinnamon doesn't screw up
Desktop dependencies...

Media Centres - MythTV or XBMC

I'm active on Facebook called Toowoomba Linux if you want to post
queries there.

Cheers
Martin
