Hello pp4mnk puppy,
If you're new to linux and would like a familiar layout to Windows 7 try Zorin linux (
http://zorinos.com/)
For an XP feel try Xubuntu 16.04 or Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon (
http://xubuntu.org/) and (
www.linuxmint.com)
Need a Apple Mac Feel try Elementary OS (
http://elementary.io/) (apparently Xubuntu can be modded to look more like mac)
To be honest the minor distros are ugly as sin. --Puppy, Blackbox, KDE4 etc.. It's like waking up in the 1980's of software design
Unfortunely with crapple mac gear you're going to be left high and dry as Apple make no effort to allow Iphones to sync to linux
That said some people have reported limited success with Rhythmbox on Ubuntu, Exaile and Banshee connecting to Ipod/phone gear.
It would be easier to purchase an android phone or maybe those new fairphones I've seen... Or even a OnePlusOne running cyanogenmod.. mmmm
Watch the Linux Action show when you can, they roadtest this stuff and contain many a useful piece of information (
