The easiest way to try linux on your computer....
http://wubi-installer.org/

If you have Vista or Windows 7 you need to change the compatibility of
wubi.exe - it is very easy!

To find out how this is done look at document called install-ubuntu3
from our file section

Windows Users can use free and Open Source Software in Windows
and it's very good!
Firefox (a Web Browser)
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html

and

OpenOffice (an Office Suite)
http://www.openoffice.org/

For the people who are technical and want to have Ubuntu and Windows
side-by-side try this method...

Thank you
Martin

Linux has Evolution for Email which is much more comparable to Outlook
than either options.

Linux has ClamAV and there are proprietary virus scanners that run on
Linux as well, perhaps not well known.

XCDroast is perhaps my favourite Linux burning tool, but there are
tonnes of different options there as well.

Thanks Sam,
I will amend the entry once other's have had a chance to give their
input.

Yes those choices are good - brain fade - I should have included at
least Evolution Mail.
