G'day,
Why consider Linux to protect your children from Net Nasties? Well
for one thing you do not have to worry about viruses and other malware
to steal information. Another is that the Password, to change
anything on the computer, is virtually unbreakable (unless you tell
them what it is). So your settings will never be changed unless you
want them to.
Also Linux is legally Free! And so are most of the programmes - plus
its easy to install.
Where to start....
Ubuntu Christian Edition has lots of Child protection goodies plus you
will find it easy to install an education suite called edubuntu. Plus
thousands of other free programmes
http://ubuntuce.com/If a religious flavour is not your thing then install Ubuntu from ...
http://www.ubuntu.com/ and install dansguardian from the Software
Centre in the menu. The default autoconfigure is an excellent
setting.
Also consider what Firefox has to offer - yes Firefox is in Linux
too. Check out ProCon Latte addon fo Firefox.
Get Firestarter firewall from the Software Centre to have a firewall -
choose the default settings for a safe computer.
Cheers
Martin
PS. Never tell your children the password!
