got a bit of a vexing problem here, ive just installed linux mint 11
on my new laptop, ive installed all media codecs, and verified package
libdvdcss2 is installed. and yet it seems incapable of reading a dvd.
it claims every dvd i try to play is encrypted and a decryption
library isnt installed. correct me if i am wrong but is libdvdcss2 not
a decryption library as its description claims???

i cant seem to find anything wrong with it, its got everything it
needs installed, it recognises the dvd as being a movie, but no media
player seems to want to go near it.

i attempted to use the official mint support IRC channel but it was as
lifeless as a boulder in a sandstorm.

if anyone has ever encountered this issue at all, let me know please.

Couple of issues u may face .... 1. Dual layered DVDs can be a probs
2. Try different Media Playback apps (VLC, Xine, MPlayer) 3. and if
all that fails open the app from a terminal and see the output (by the
look u may have already done that 4. reinstall a different Distro -
that hardware may not be supported by Mint 5. If u like mint and it
is a hardware issue then enable PPA - Ubuntu Backports and Canonical
Backports - good luck
(btw i don't think libdvdcss2 is the only restricted codec for DVD
playback...)
Oh! Gstreamer and Xine backends can conflict
