i just installed kubuntu last night and it instantly solved my
soundcard issues.
but now i'm having untold trouble getting amarok to play any of my
music files.
it plays mp3's just fine but a good 70% of my music files are in wav
format recorded in 24 bit
at 96KHz and amarok seems to hate it because every time i open a file
it claims track length to be 0:00.
does anyone have any experience convincing amarok to do what its told?
i'm at a complete loss here.

Hey Malcolm,
glad to hear that your audio issues are nearly solved...
Codecs, codecs codecs! Depending on your Distro it will most likely
be in the restricted section.
Cheers

i feel like making a smartass comment like "never woulda guessed it
was a codec issue"
as for the restricted section well thats the thing. where in
kpackagekit is the flamin restricted section?!?
stupid thing didnt come with synaptic so i have zero clue where to
look.
and as for the audio issue. well it works fine in kubuntu. but now
windows is giving me absolute hell.
it worked fine before i installed kubuntu. now it says it cant detect
either of the 2 audio devices in my pc.
it cant even detect the realtek HDA onboard chipset.
someone wanna tell me what kubuntu did to my pc?
