The official Toorcamp site states that cabin and yurt reservations must go through Doe Bay Resort, but it's unclear if car-camp sites can be reserved ahead of time and if that is through Toorcamp or Doe Bay.
I want to drive my camper van up, but don't know how limited car camping spots are or if they are first come first serve. Does anyone have past experiences with can/van camping at Toorcamp?

Thanks.

Email the Spaceteam about your vehicle! Keeping in mind, the venue has a limited number of spaces for large vehicles.

I believe it is Spac...@toorcamp.org.

I have been coming with a 21' Ritalta RV the past couple of times. I setup in the main tent camping area. It is first come first serve and a group of RV's and vans typically setup on the Tent perimeter near the road. So, if you want to do this, come early and also email the organizers of your intentions so they can plan. When you arrive stake your claim and get permission to stay from the camp coordinator (usually driving around in a golf cart). It hasn't been a problem so far, but if everyone shows up in van, it could be a problem.

How early is 'early', in your experience?

Show up before 11, get on the first ferry in the morning - make your ferry reservations early. By 3PM all spots will be gone. Last time, I'd say there was room for 6-7 vehicles, not much more than that. They kinda actually frown upon car camping - not really camping.

I've made a little map where the RV/Vans have hung out in the previous 2 ToorCamps.

Any advice on what to get, or something that I should bring back to help some of your projects?  or specific markets to visit?   huá qiáng běi

It's amazing what could be purchased in 2016 for 50 bucks.
This article  links to Bunnie so I thought of you all.

Let me know if you want to connect with the make/hacker community in SZ and HK -- or if you need help finding makerspaces/markets in Shenzhen.

Peace,
Charles

I keep meaning to put together my thoughts from CCCamp, but until that happens... there was one huge take-away that is going to need some brainstorming and purchases, though likely not from this realm.

It was crazy that after 2 or 3am, everything was fairly quiet and the roaming groups kept disappearing. Turns out they had a sound insulated night club for those looking to party until sunrise.

Could we rig something up that covers the first ~20ft of the prime dome (or another) and can be put-up/taken-down each evening? I'm thinking that the sound would head up, not out, and reduce the number of complaints we get about Milliways.

Will, for the noise at milliways, there are some new noise barriers available. For the 520 construction project they have fences covered with a special plastic film to absorb and deflect noise.  They had some mythbuster like show featuring it and a locomotive horn years ago.

That would be awesome to cover some domes or neighborhoods with, but probably impractical.

also, I'm hoping we have something strong to hold the dome down with, like buried concrete bricks with some tie-downs, and we may want to check the conduit

I met a few interesting characters.

The owner of the hostel in zhuhai is a part of an electroluminescent lighting company, ellighting.com    They have done a lot of cool stuff and the Phoenix Egg Hostel was to be part of a show room.  They make some really neat films.

I met a chip designer from Beijing who had never been to the market before.

I have been informed of an opinion that the market is moving on to being more of a retail environment as trade shows become more established....  I still only found a tiny area, and the cheapest drones i found with a camera are about 100rmb...  I'm only really seeking cheap christmas presents for the kids now... and its a weekend, so donno if i will find a thriving electronic toy area when I go back this afternoon.
