Where is the group moderator? Why isn't anyone doing something about
all the spam this group is getting?

Even if we created a new group it wouldn't be long before the spam restarted anyway, that being said, I was wondering why there was in influx of spam in my inbox.

No, that isn't true. You simply have to restrict membership so joining requires approval and be willing to act if someone sneaks in. It requires a small amount of effort... that clearly the tools-for-DMs owner does not want/can not put in.
