So since this group is all about Tools for DMs, how about an opinion
on the magnetic "condition" markers from Alea Tools? http://www.aleatools.com/

They seem like a neat idea. But being magnets, my concerns is they
might try to latch on to each other when put close together. And
apparently this is a problem some people do have. Still, the ability
to quickly and easily evaluate the battle just by glancing at colored
discs seems highly useful. Anyone here use them or have any opinions?

I recently bought the DMs set of magnets from AleaTools and I love
using them.

The "sticking problem" was easily solved for me by sticking a thin
sheet of steel underneath my battlemat. The magnets attraction to the
steel is stronger than their attraction to each other, so they don't
stick together.

I'm a player in a weekly game and the DM bought the DM set. Works
really well. There attraction to each other isn't too bad - metal
table though. I'll probably buy a set for when I start up my own
game, they sure beat the glass counters.

I was just using little colored rubber bands to hang from our
miniatures, like little necklaces. Not fancy, but reasonable fast and
effective for marking challenged and bloodied minis.

I found some 1" wooden discs at a craft store to which I applied a
sharpie paint pen... Red for bloodied, gold and silver for other
conditions.

I'm an Alea Tools Junkie. I have a 4'x6' dry erase battleboard, wall
mounted, that I "armor plated" just to be able to use these things
vertically. They're a great tool for tracking bloodied, flying,
immobilized, or even just using them for "Random Monster D" and moving
them around the board in no time.
