"Eyes Open" is a song written and recorded by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift for The Hunger Games movie soundtrack, The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond, though the song is not included in the film itself. Produced by Swift and Nathan Chapman, it was released as the second single from the album and was sent to mainstream radio on March 27, 2012. A lyric video consisting of animation was released on Vevo in May 2012.
A re-recording of the song, titled "Eyes Open (Taylor's Version)", was released on March 17, 2023, via Republic Records. The re-recording is part of Swift's plan to re-record her back catalog, following the dispute over the ownership of the masters of her first six albums.
The song was one of two songs that Swift wrote and recorded for the soundtrack to the film, The Hunger Games, the other song being "Safe & Sound". Swift first premiered the song during a performance in Auckland for her Speak Now World Tour, before launching into the song she told the crowd: "I'm really excited about it...but, I mean, you don't think I'd get in trouble if I played it now? Probably not, right?".[2] The song was leaked before its official release date of March 20, 2012.[3] A music video comprised as a lyric video was released on May 17, 2012, on Swift's Vevo account.[4][5] The video consists of animation with the song's lyrics.[6]
"Eyes Open" is four minutes and four seconds in length. Critics described the song's genre as alternative rock.[7][8] Billboard said that it "[exists] more in the modern rock vein than [Swift's] usual country-pop oeuvre".[9] According to Swift, she wrote the song about Katniss's "relationship" with the Capitol. Swift describes the song as the opposite of the melancholic "Safe & Sound," stating that "[it is] more frantic and fast-paced, a completely different shade of music."[10]
The song garnered general critical acclaim from contemporary critics - most of whom favorably noted the song's more rock-oriented tone as compared to her previous releases. While reviewing The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond, Matt Bjorke named "Eyes Open" as one of the "standouts" on the record.[11] Jason Lipshutz of Billboard also found the same description of the song - stating that it "[exists] more in the modern rock vein than her usual country-pop oeuvre."[12] In June 2022, Insider ranked "Eyes Open" as Swift's third best soundtrack song, only behind "Safe & Sound" and "I Don't Wanna Live Forever".[13]
Upon the soundtrack's release, "Eyes Open" entered the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 19 with 176,000 digital copies as the week's highest debut.[16] After it was sent to mainstream radio, the song debuted on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart at number 28 and was Swift's highest debut to date; it would reach number 20 on the chart.[17][18] On December 2012, "Eyes Open" received a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA);[19] it became Swift's sixteenth million-seller and her second from the soundtrack after "Safe & Sound".[20] By November 2017, the song had sold 1.4 million units in the United States.[21]
Elsewhere, "Eyes Open" peaked on the charts in various Anglophone territories, at number 17 in Canada,[22] number 47 in Australia,[23] number 65 in Ireland,[24] and number 70 in the United Kingdom.[25] In New Zealand, the song debuted and peaked at number six on the RMNZ's Top 40 Singles chart and was certified gold by Recorded Music NZ (RMNZ).[26][27]
A re-recorded version of "Eyes Open", titled "Eyes Open (Taylor's Version)", was released by Swift on March 17, 2023, via Republic Records.[34] The song is part of Swift's re-recording plan following the dispute over the ownership of the masters of her older discography.
Ephesians 1:18- I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.
May this beautiful song be our prayer today, that God will open the eyes of our heart, allowing us to see Him as our Lord and Saviour, who rescued us from our sin and who now reigns in heaven in all His power, glory and majesty. It can be so easy for our focus to be diverted away from Jesus because of the craziness of this life. But it is so important to remember to take time of our day to spend with Jesus. Whether that means spending a few moments in prayer, reading a few verses from your bible or reading the Faith Filled Friends devotion. God lives inside of us through His Holy Spirit, so may our hearts be open to Him, to receive His love and grace.
Father, I pray today you will soften our hearts to receive you, to allow us to see you as Lord and Saviour. Thank you for rescuing us from our sin, for giving us freedom. I ask that you will keep our hearts open to you always, so that we will grow more in our walk with you each day. May we seek you first Lord. In Jesus name I pray.
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come . . . (KJV).
Im surprised this is so hard for me to find this becasue i felt like a couple weeks ago I was hearing it so much. It is a techno-y/dubstep song that has a female vocalist singing. the only lyrics i remember are "with your eyes wide open" and she repeats it quite often.
Open the eyes of my heart Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
Open the eyes of my heart Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
Our congregation is trying to make that awkward move to include a praise song or two into our traditional worship service. This is a good thing. It appeals to the younger people in our congregation and those who are worshiping in a whole new way. I also must admit that I really like praise and worship music as well and often find myself listening to K-Love, Air1, or the Message on my radio. I also like the hymns as well.
I can not tell you the number of times this song has ministered to my spiritual life or my relationship with others. It has often helped me on my weight loss journey too. Having God enlighten the vision of our hearts is something we should be asking him to do more often.
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places. Ephesians 1:17-20
Dear Father of glory, I pray for the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Jesus. I ask that you will enlighten the eyes of my heart, so that I may know the hope to which you have called me, what are the riches of my glorious inheritance, and what is the immeasurable greatness of your power in my life, according to the working of your great power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him at your right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. (Adapted from Ephesians 1:17-22)
What a blessing to have open eyes, to see all the marvelous gifts that God has bestowed upon us. When the world is fretting about presents, parties and celebrations, lets open our eyes to see what God has in store.
The eyes are our windows to the brain. There are differences in brain activity between people who have their eyes closed (EC) and eyes open (EO). Previous studies focused on differences in brain functional properties between these eyes conditions based on an assumption that brain activity is a static phenomenon. However, the dynamic nature of the brain activity in different eyes conditions is still unclear. In this study, we collected resting-state fMRI data from 21 healthy subjects in the EC and EO conditions. Using a sliding time window approach and a k-means clustering algorithm, we calculated the temporal properties of dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) states in the eyes conditions. We also used graph theory to estimate the dynamic topological properties of functional networks in the two conditions. We detected two dFC states, a hyper-connected State 1 and a hypo-connected State 2. We showed the following results: (i) subjects in the EC condition stayed longer in the hyper-connected State 1 than those in the EO; (ii) subjects in the EO condition stayed longer in the hypo-connected State 2 than those in the EC; and (iii) the dFC state transformed into the other state more frequently during EC than during EO. We also found the variance of the characteristic path length was higher during EC than during EO in the hyper-connected State 1. These results indicate that brain activity may be more active and unstable during EC than during EO. Our findings may provide insights into the dynamic nature of the resting-state brain and could be a useful reference for future rs-fMRI studies.
This has been my prayer anthem this week. Oh Lord that you would open our eyes, illumine us, Spirit Divine. May the darkness flee. In Jesus name.. For you are the light and the darkness will not overcome us
