Rusty,

I propose we meet tomorrow morning at 10am at the Walmart at 4th and Q. On the south end of the building to the left of the southernmost entrance there is a large sidewalk area with a bike rack. Let's meet there. We can run inside and buy some snacks and bottled water for the trip and then leave from there.

See you then...

sounds good on the dickens run.

we had to move the engine to TDC (top dead center) when we put it back together after installing cylinder to make sure the cam was aligned correctly -- it was really easy.
so, sure I'll look.

Hey guys,

I just got off the phone with Chris at Motor City. The mechanic got the CDI unit in and say it sparks well but still doesn't turn over. He think it has somethign to do with the chain (cam chain? forgot the name), like the engine isn't timed right, or sumsuch. Rusty, isn't that something we adjusted back in December? I don't remember it being that difficult to align correctly... COuld you look at it at some point, Rusty?

Anyway, it sounds like Chris and that mechanic have had it with my scooter so they want me to pick it up at some point.  He will charge me $100 for the work he did do, which seems reasonable (I was worried it would be more). The guy has a pickup so maybe he can bring it to me... I'll see.

Rusty, I'm pretty busy this weekend so how about the Dickens run the following weekend?

OK guys,

I'm going to be buying that Honda up in Amarillo this week. Now, they mentioned the possibility of bringing the scooter down here but apparently that isn't going to happen so I need to go up there myself. I have two options:

I can do what I did last time with the Kymco and rent a pickup to drive there and brign it back. Rental and gas would be about $120 or so.

I c an go up there one way, visa greyhound by or a one way car rental and ride the scooter back to Lubbock. It's about 125 miles, and my Dickens trip last year was 170 miles, so I;ve done that sort of lengthy road trip before. My concern is riding a new bike I know nothing about for so long and also pushing a new bike with only about 170 miles on it too far. A bus ticket is about 40 and I guess a car rental is a little bit more than that, so it's a lot cheaper than the first option.

SO what do you guys think about me riding the scoot back from Amarillo? DO you think it will be OK? Should I play it safe and just bring it back in a pickup? And if I do go with the pickup, Daniel, I would probably ask if I could borrow that ramp from you for my arrival back in town.

I just got off the phone with Chris from Motor City. He's going to get me in touch with a guy he knows who does repair work out of his garage. Said it would be about $30-40 bucks for the initial diagnosis and there would be a flat fee for the repair itself, no hourly rate. Chris said he knows his stuff and price is reasonable. He said he would be able to pick up the scooter and take it down there for me.

Interestingly enough, he also told me that he recently sold a silver Kymco to a Tech staff member who was also from Seattle.

Rusty, can you remind me again of what it was that we replaced so I can pass it on?

I understand. I will start looking into finding a professional mechanic.

But if I can ask one last favor, the engine is still a bit dismantled from the hoses we moved around and whatnot. If I do need to take it in do yo uthink yo ucan help me put eveyrthing back the way it was before we took it apart?

Hey Brian,

I know that I have very little if any time through the next few weeks, but the bigger concern I have is that we have mostly exhausted my bag of mechanical tricks. It has spark, fuel, and compression. I don't know where to go next without buying a bunch of random parts and replacing them until it runs. That is a slow and frustrating method of mechanicing. Finding a mechanic who knows modern scooters will give you a better chance of getting back on the road soon.

You might call Chris Waite at Motor City (He's a Too Flat member). He may be able to get you in touch with a mechanic who can help you out. 806-239-9403. I am sorry that I am not much help.

Hi Daniel,

I emailed Rusty. He's busy until the end of April so he won't be able to help me much with my scooter. If you can help shortly after you get back it would be appreciated. And if we can't get it fixed I will most likely take it to a shop or find a mechanic on Craigslist who can help. I need to get my bike up and running...

I'm also mulling the possibility of getting another scoot...

Yup, dickens for BBQ. Brian has the route.
Pretty sure it's a 55 mph ride.
