Zero Hour: Senior English
Bellwork:
Write for ten minutes.
1. What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
2. Summarize the first three acts of Macbeth.
Class Activities:
After bellwork, divide students into three groups. Each group is to develop a ten-minute skit summarizing one act of Macbeth; each group should have a different act of the play (Act 1 = Group 1, etc). Each group must choose one of the following genres in which to retell the major action in their assigned act: science fiction, Western, soap opera. Each group must assign each member a role in the skit. Each group must complete a basic script for their adaptation, complete with cast list and at least 1 understudy. Rehearse and be prepared to show Mr. Tonk upon his return.
Closure:
On the back of your bellwork:
What is the "theme" of your group's retelling of Macbeth? What is the author's dominant message during this act?
2nd Period: AP English Literature
Bellwork:
Write for ten minutes.
1. What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
2. How much are you going to strangle Mr. Tonk for being home instead of delivering your papers?
3. Which Frankenstein character are you looking forward to cross-examining the most?
Class Activities:
Go to the wiki page. Click on "Trial Information." Read each document carefully. As a class, develop a "cheat sheet" for courtroom procedure.
Develop a list of the witnesses you will call, and in what order. Which witnesses would you consider to be friendly? Which witnesses would you consider hostile?
Which supporting attorneys will be responsible for knowing which witness backwards and forwards? Which lead attorney is giving opening statements? Which lead attorney is closing? Which attorney is examining which witness? Who is doing cross-examination for each probable prosecution witness? Plot strategy.
Closure:
On the back of your bellwork:
Which witnesses will be the most damaging? How can you minimize this damage?
