Good Evening All,

Im brand new to this side of computing so please go easy with me....

My company receives .dat files once a week for storage, and now we are required to view the data in the files.

Is there anyway to view these files in a .xls format?

I have tried to convert them to CSV, with no success.

I have later discovered they are in a binary .dat format.

I have attached a file so people can see the format it comes in.

Please help.....

Thanks in advance

Dear Andrew,

Sorry for the late reply, I have been travelling quite a lot for the last month, and only now I am starting to catch up on the Tonatiuh posts. Could you elaborate more on what you need to do? Are this .dat files Tonatiuh data files? If so, could you tell me with what version of the program they have been produced?

If the data files are Tonatiuh data files they provide information about the intersections of individual rays cast by the program with the different surfaces that compose the optical system being modelled. The general structure of the Tonatiuh output files is explained in the lower section of the main page of the Tonatiuh website. There examples are provided of how to access the data file information with third party programs such as Mathematica or R, which is open source, and can be downloaded and used free or charge. Furthermore, few other tutorials in the Tonatiuh wiki pages provide examples of how to access the ray data information in the binary files generated by Tonatiuh in order to process them to obtain incident energy and flux distributions estimates on different surfaces.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Manuel
