The points were gathered on a Trimble unit, and I received a CSV file of all the points. When I 'Import' the points (from the Coordinate Tab), I see to browse to a file on the network. No problem. I select the file. But then I get nothing. The white space where points should show up is blank.
Attached is the original CSV file I'm trying to import. I was trying to bring it into an OOTB template for testing first before bringing it in a live project. I've also attached a screen shot of my import dialog box.
It looks like the actual problem is because I had the CSV file open while I was trying to import that. The header names were irrelevant to that list propagating. I was able to get that list to propagate on the original file before I changed headers.
Autodesk Point Layout takes BIM coordinates into the field for greater layout speed, accuracy, and safety. Small deviations can cause big problems in the field and traditional measurement and layout processes can set back projects and timelines. Autodesk Point Layout provides accurate point coordinates field teams can use to reduce the risk of layout errors. Use Autodesk Point Layout to:

I have a CSV of points the I created in Dynamo, and I am trying to import them as GTP in Revit. It seems to import all the points just fine, even telling me the "x have been created", but then I try and select all the points ans tag them, I am told that there are no points in this location. I have tried using all different kinds of Coordinate Systems just to get them to show up any where in the view. Is there possibly a setting that I am not aware of?
I managed to find all my points. Every single one, despite my csv giving the point the appropriate Z-coordinate, were given an elevation of -100. I only found them when I made my view plan bottom Unlimited. My project has an internal origin of (0,0,100) so I don't quite understand why my points were given the elevation they have. Any tips on how to get my points to the correct elevation automatically? I'm trying to automate the GTP process for my team so the less manual changes I need to make the better.
On a side not, I organized my CSV in X,Y,Z order, and imported them in, according to the APL "Import Location Points from File" window in X,Y,Z order as well. When I imported the points, the order is changed to Z,X,Y. I was able to easily reformat my CSV but I feel that this should not have been the case.
Import screen remembers which order you used from last import, however if you include a header row in your CSV (Just copy the one out from an APL csv export if needed) it will check that and autoswitch to the proper order based on it.
Import also defaults to project internal until you specify a different coordinate system to use, it will then remember that (Per project) and use the one you choose next time. Try importing again, but set coordinate system to Shared "Internal" first and see if that solves your elevation problem.
when you imports or export points from what I learned you still have to specify the coordinate system even if its internal. When you click on (coordinate system the origin, scale and rotation are blank out until you click on the Internal or a specific shared coordinates.
Let us know what result you do get when trying to do automatic renumbering. You need to check which type of points to renumber or use the All option alongside selection via filter, and set a start number to renumber by. You can run into problems if you don't set that starting number, select types that are not used in the model, or do not have edit capabilities on the points (Which should not be the case if you can manually edit those numbers).
placing a manual point as an electrical Pt and then I try to renumber it and choose the electrical Pt option will not renumber the points. It will only renumber the points if I choose the all (use filter) option
This may be related to the new dynamic types functionality where you can basically mark the type as anything you want instead of the previously limited selection (As represented by those check boxes). I'll take a look into this for the next release, but for now I believe you have a way forward.
This was answered several years ago now, but I'm trying to bring in points from a linked Revit file. Objective is to create the points in the origin Revit file, then bring them into a blank Revit project with the other model linked in. Then I can geo-locate everything in the blank project for layout purposes, but still use the original model aligned to Architectural origin to export to Navisworks for coordination.
Anyway, I'm attempting to put points on a large spiral monolithic stair in the source model, and then pull those points into the geo-located Revit project. I clicked this check-box, but my points have not shown up. Any suggestions? the only way I could get Point Layout to create the points on the stair was to add points to face>by element> edges > Automatic placement.
2. Rather than do the above process, just share the coordinate system over from the geo located project to the linked model, then you can export directly from that model with the actual points. Since it sounds like you already have the staircase positioned in there, determine a couple of coordinates on it within the Geo-located model, then in the staircase model, use the create coordinate system tool.
I just ran a quick test in Revit 2021 and am seeing the same problem, unfortunately something may have changed in the Revit API causing that option to no longer work. I will investigate when I can, but for now your options are either to get that coordinate system into your source model, or to bind the linked source model.
I can easily share the coordinate system or recreate it in point layout on the source model, so that's what I'll do for now. I would like to have this functionality back eventually though for other potential uses.
I am trying to use AutoCAD 2018 and Point Layout to place 'Control Points" for pier centers to be placed with a GPS instrument. I place the desired points and use the export option. The export points to file menu pops up and I have tried selecting both "Select All" and "Select some" in the point selection box. I have had success several times using the "Select all" option, but now when I go to select points for export, the program will only export 4 of my roughly 50 points in the file. The photos below show 1) the options that I have used successfully before to export points to csv which now are not working correctly, and 2) only 4 points of my 50 or so I trying to export(points in green in the background.
