I was intrigued when I heard the news about the game receiving a film adaptation. FNAF as a video game is predicated on building suspense and unease as the player tries to survive each of the five nights until all those building feelings inevitably climax with a violent animatronic jumping onto your screen. So I was hoping the mood of those games would translate well into, at the very least, a competent horror flick. What was received instead was a piece nearly devoid of all tension and a showcase of something plaguing most established franchised Hollywood productions.
Trauma and horror have always gone hand in hand, but it seems as though recent horror films have been honing in on that aspect, and this film is not an exception. However, this FNAF adaptation never dives into their trauma with any depth, always preferring to stay on the surface level. I was initially expecting little depth in the FNAF movie. Still, when a film starts to tackle fundamental themes like preconceived trauma and its effects on people, we expect it to tackle those themes with more depth than a kiddie pool with just an inch of water.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is a pizzeria set up by Fazbear Entertainment open from 1988 to 1993, and where the event of Five Nights at Freddy's takes place. It is home to the animatronic entertainers, Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy. Violent events tend to occur day and night, but the major movements and activity normally occur at night.
Freddy Fazbear's Pizza at night is a dimly light restaurant. The place is covered in posters with the characters saying various things such as "Play, Party, Eat", in addition, the place is covered in pizza decorations and slices of pizza and black and white tiled room and other various decorations scattered very poorly around the establishment.
The rooms in the establishment is Show Stage, Kitchen, Pirate Cove, Restrooms, Dining Area, West Hall, East Hall, West Hall Corner, East Hall Corner, Backstage, Supply Closet and your Office. There are 12 rooms in total.
After 1987, Fazbear Entertainment opened the pizzeria, smaller than the previous one to save money, with refurbished versions of the Withered Animatronics. In the first game, the restaurant is actually set to be shut down later in the year; complaints to the Health Department about blood and mucus leaking from the suits, as well as a horrid odor, are allegedly the cause. According to several altered posters in the first game, an incident occurred at the Withered Animatronics' old location when William Afton, dressed in the Spring Bonnie suit, lured two and eventually five kids in total into the back of the pizzeria and murdered them.
While at FNaF 1's location, business had been bad, and the management could not find a buyer for the pizzeria since no one cared to be associated with the name, giving them no other choice but to close the place down. Due to the incidents related to the animatronics attacking the night guards, the restaurant had been unable to earn a substantial amount of revenue. This resulted in the implementation of a power budget at night. It is also for these reasons that the establishment was forced to close down at the end of the year.
Freddy, Bonnie and Chica were left on the Show Stage, while Foxy was left in Pirate Cove. At some point William Afton returned to the Pizzeria, hiding in the Safe Room to dismantle the animatronics. Shadow Freddy lured the core four animatronics, and William dismantled each one by one. The ghosts then chased William into the Spring Bonnie suit, which failed while he was wearing it, killing him and turning him into Springtrap. Springtrap was eventually found 30 years after the Pizzeria's closure by the Fazbear's Fright crew, when an architect of one of the buildings revealed the existence of the Safe Room.
The FNaF 1 version of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza returns as a digital recreation with in the Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience. The player can see it with in all of the FNaF 1 levels, and the Parts and Service levels. All of the rooms from the first game can be seen, including the Kitchen.
A separated "improved" version of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza seems to have been a larger establishment before the events of the first game took place, being open for a short time in 1987. As mentioned in a newspaper after beating Night 6 of the second game, the restaurant would soon be shut down. However, the possibility of a reopening is mentioned, albeit with a lower budget. This explain why the restaurant in the first game has limited power, a smaller location, and four active animatronics instead of six.
The new rooms in this establishment include Party Room 1, 2, 3, and 4, Game Area, Prize Corner, Air Vent's, Parts/Service. As well as this, rooms similar to the first game are included as well, such as the Office, Main Hall, Show Stage and Kid's Cove.
In 1987, Fazbear Entertainment opened this new, large location, employing Phone Guy as a boss of the location. The Pizzeria had updated versions of the original animatronics, known as the 'Toy' animatronics, as well as Balloon Boy and the Puppet as animatronic mascots, fitting them with facial recognition software tied to a criminal database. Initially, the company was going to repair the original animatronics, and started retrofitting them with the new technology, but this was abandoned.
William worked at the pizzeria as a technician, and after complaining about conditions, was moved to the dayshift. He used the the Spring Bonnie suit and killed five more innocent children, who are heavily implied to possess the Toy animatronics. As the week progresses, terrible things start to happen within the restaurant that result in an investigation, lockdown, and eventually its closing.
This led to a police investigation. Eventually, the building went on lockdown, with Jeremy Fitzgerald, to be moved to the dayshift. The building was scheduled to close down, with one last birthday being scheduled as the final event, which presumably ended with the Bite of '87. After Fritz Smith's shift, the Pizzeria closed down after a few weeks of being open.
